Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #5
22nd August, 2011
Thirteen Baris Northern Counties East League sides made it through to the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup at the weekend as the Road to Wembley got underway.
Two of them were victorious against teams from other leagues whilst the other eleven defeated fellow NCEL rivals to progress to the next stage.
First half goals from Josh Schofield and Philip Buxton saw Arnold Town through at Dunkirk whilst Shirebrook Town needed a brace from Carl Haslam to come from behind and win 2-1 at home to Blackstones.
Eccleshill United, however, lost 3-1 at Congleton Town whilst Lincoln Moorlands Railway were defeated by the same scoreline at Holbeach United and Long Eaton United were beaten 4-0 at home by Huntingdon Town.
Retford United are out of the competition after visitors Gresley won 2-0 and Brighouse Town lost 4-1 at Runcorn Town.
Louth Town were held to a goalless draw at Gedling Miners Welfare so will replay Tuesday night as will Rossington Main who earned a 1-1 scoreline at Silsden, courtesy of William Rowley's 78th-minute equaliser.
The remaining twelve FA Cup fixtures were all-NCEL ties starting on Friday night where AFC Emley bowed out, beaten 4-1 at home by Hall Road Rangers.
Michael Bettney and Neil Towler had Rangers two-up by the interval before Towler hit a third, Adam Crane made it four with twenty minutes remaining and David Heagney struck an injury time consolation for the hosts.
Glasshoughton Welfare were the weekend's "giantkillers" as the Division One side won at Premier Division Maltby Main in dramatic fashion, Steve Forgione with the injury-time winner in a 2-1 victory.
But, Hemsworth Miners Welfare, Grimsby Borough, Hallam, Askern Villa and Dinnington Town could not follow Glasshoughton's lead as they all went out to top flight clubs.
Carl Stewart's brace saw Tadcaster Albion through 2-1 at Hemsworth whilst Grimsby Borough were beaten 4-1 at Parkgate, Chris Wood getting a couple for the home side, and Hallam lost 4-0 at Scarborough Athletic through goals from Tony Hackworth, Ryan Blott, Curtis Bernard and Ant Lynam.
Jay Rollins netted for Villa in the last minute but it was not enough as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Thackley and, in Sunday's only game of the day, Jonathan Andrew and Kingsley Wetherald scored for Pickering Town in their 2-0 victory over visitors Dinnington.
The only all-Division One tussle saw Pontefract Collieries progress 2-0 at home to Yorkshire Amateur, Liam Ormsby and James Hicks with the goals, one in each half.
And, in the three all-Premier Division clashes, James Walker struck a last-gasp winner for Armthorpe Welfare in their 3-2 victory at Nostell Miners Welfare whilst a Ryan Damms hat-trick, with two from the penalty spot, helped Staveley Miners Welfare to a 4-0 victory at home to Winterton Rangers.
Liversedge won 4-1 at Selby Town whilst there will be a replay on Tuesday night between Barton Town Old Boys and Bridlington Town after a 2-2 draw at the Euronics Ground.
Away from the FA Cup, there were three Division One matches as Worksop Parramore moved to the top of table with a 5-2 win at Handsworth.
Gavin Davis and Tom Nolan both got on the scoresheet twice for the Baris NCEL new boys whilst Albion Sports picked up their first ever win in the league, 4-2 at home to Appleby Frodingham, Joe Brown netting a hat-trick for the Lions.
And, Teversal picked up their first point of the season in a 2-2 draw at home to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
