Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #2

11th August, 2011

Two goals from Steve Hollingworth helped Brighouse Town to a 5-3 win at home to Arnold Town as the Baris Northern Counties East Football League's first midweek matches of the new season brought a lot of entertainment.

Ryan Brook, Roy Fogarty and Jacob Lever also got on the scoresheet for the hosts whilst Martin Carruthers netted a brace and Anthony Gregory scored for the Eagles.

William Mellors-Blair put Long Eaton United ahead after seventeen minutes but the home side were made to pay for further missed chances as Armthorpe Welfare turned the game on its head in the second period.

James Walker levelled near the hour mark before Richard Smith and Henry Sibenge found the net in the last twelve minutes to give the visitors a 3-1 victory.

All three of the Baris NCEL's cup competitions got underway with Teversal claiming their place in the Second Round of the League Cup at the expense of fellow Division One side, Hallam, by the same scoreline.

Danny Swales and Rob Collins had them two-up by the break before Danny Wilson added their third towards the end of the game and Danny Wiltshire scored an injury time consolation for the away team.

Hall Road Rangers, meanwhile, are into the Third Round of the competition after Grant Normington's 38th minute strike secured them a single-goal win at Bridlington Town.

Seven of the eight President's Cup First Round ties were played with one Division One side overcoming their Premier Division opponents.

Greig McGrory's goal on 33 minutes for Pontefract Collieries put them through 1-0 at home to Nostell Miners Welfare.

Glasshoughton Welfare were knocked out by a Gareth Barlow double in their 2-1 defeat at Barton Town Old Boys whilst Louth Town were beaten 4-1 at Lincoln Moorlands Railway in extra time, Tom Garrick with all the home side's goals.

Tadcaster Albion were 6-0 winners at home to Yorkshire Amateur, Graeme Whitehead leading the way with two of the Brewers' strikes.

The two all-Premier Division ties ended with victories for the hosts although Winterton Rangers needed extra-time to beat Parkgate 4-2, Danny Barlow with his second of the evening and Aaron Moxam with their fourth to ensure they went through.

Staveley Miners Welfare were 2-1 winners at home to Thackley.

And, Brian Cusworth's 43rd-minute goal was enough to see Handsworth through against AFC Emley.

Albion Sports won 3-2 at Rossington Main to progress to the Second Round of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy whilst Shirebrook Town are into the last eight after their 4-1 home victory over Bottesford Town, helped by a hat-trick from Keiron Watson.

There was also one friendly as Bridlington Town were beaten 3-1 by a Hull City XI at the Neil Hudgell Law Stadium on Wednesday night.
