NCEL Match Review #38
18th December, 2008
Martin Carruthers struck four times for Arnold Town as their 5-2 win at home to Dinnington Town moved them up to third in the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division.
He hit two in each half in the game that was played at Carlton Town's ground with Mark Clifford also getting on the scoresheet for the Eagles.
They are now three points behind the leaders, Mickleover Sports.
Dinnington, who remain fifth, saw both of their goals scored by Grant Allott, the first from the penalty spot.
Scarborough Athletic strengthened their grip at the top of Division One with a 2-0 home victory over third-placed Pontefract Collieries.
Ryan Blott opened the scoring on 31 minutes and then, after a short delay due to floodlight failure, Richard Medcalf made sure of the points with five minutes remaining.
The Seadogs are now four points clear of their nearest rivals with games in hand and a vastly superior goal difference.
Leeds Carnegie stay in eighth despite a 5-0 win at Grimsby Borough.
They were three-up by half-time with goals from Anthony Hilton, Tom Clare and Matt Chiltern before Chiltern added his second and his side's fourth on the hour mark and Joe Rossiter finished the scoring on 75 minutes.
A whirlwind first-half performance by Mickleover Sports helped them ease through to the Fourth Round of the Derbyshire Senior Cup with a 7-1 win at fellow KoolSport NCEL side Long Eaton United.
They had given their hosts six-of-the-best by the break with Karl Ashton and Ricky Law scoring in the first seventeen minutes and then Kieran O'Connell and Dan Martin hitting two each.
Ashton added the seventh in the opening minute of the second period before Lee Sutton got the home side on the scoreboard on 85.
Yorkshire Amateur, meanwhile, produced a giant-killing act as the Division One side knocked out UniBond League visitors, Goole AFC.
Nathan Thomas put them ahead on 31 minutes before Stuart Copnell's 80th-minute penalty for Goole forced extra time.
The game looked to be going to penalties until a dramatic last ten minutes that saw Michael Ranson regain the lead for the Ammers, Nicholas Darker level once again for the visitors and then Dempsey Smith claim a 3-2 victory for the hosts with two minutes to go.
Extra-time was also needed in the KoolSport NCEL League cup Second Round tie at the Clayborn Ground.
A 90th-minute goal from Shirebrook Town's Joe Naylor made it a further half-hour of play after hosts Liversedge had taken the lead through Elliott Williams on 73.
But, Luke Sherman hit Sedge's winner on the brink of half-time in extra-time to send them through to a home time against the trophy holders, Winterton Rangers.
Selby Town used a free midweek to arrange a friendly with Frickley Athletic at the Selby Times Stadium which they won 5-0.
And, Tadcaster Albion won 2-1 in a friendly at home to Knaresborough Town.
