NCEL Match Review #27

9th November, 2008

Lincoln Moorlands Railway picked up their first points of the season in sensational style as they beat Eccleshill United 8-0.

Having failed to win or draw in their previous thirteen matches, they managed to score in one game twice as many times as they had done all season in the League.

Five of the goals came in the first half as they lifted themselves off the bottom of the table and dumped their visitors there in their place.

A Simon Mowbray hat-trick and further strikes from Luke Jennings and Jack McGovern meant that they were well on their way by the interval.

Scott Coupland, Steve John and Josh Langtry then got in on the act to make it a thoroughly miserable afternoon for Eccleshill.

In another day of highscoring in the top flight, Hallam and Maltby Main hit their opponents for six.

Hallam won 6-1 at Hall Road Rangers who have now conceded half-a-dozen in each of their last two matches.

James Tevendale and Darren Holmes both struck twice for the visitors whilst the home side's anguish was compounded by own goals for Chris Garth and Lee Shillito.

Paul Palmer got the solitary strike for Rangers.

And, another Rangers, defending champions Winterton, were at the end of a 6-1 defeat at Maltby Main.

Dave Shepherd, Rob Branagan and Matt Wragg - twice - found the net to have Maltby four-up by the half-hour mark.

Matthew Plant opened the scoring for Winterton on 37 but it was Main who added to the scoreline through John Beggs and then a second for Branagan.

Mickleover Sports maintained their point lead at the top of the table with a 2-1 win at Dinnington Town.

Tony Law and Karl Ashton got their goals in the opening quarter-of-an-hour before Gavin Allott pulled one back on 28 minutes and that is how it stayed.

Pickering Town won 4-1 at Bridlington Town to keep within a win of the leaders in second place.

Tom Adams put the Pikes ahead on 40 minutes before Chris Batchelor, Liam Salt and Chaz Wrigley made sure of the victory with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.

Nathan Hotte got Bridlington off the mark on 82 but the defeat means the Seasiders drop to eighth.

Third-placed Selby have fallen to five points behind the top two after they were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Nostell Miners Welfare.

The hosts had gone two-up with a Christian Fox double in the opening 34 minutes.

But, Dave Nicholas converted a penalty on 58 minutes and Craig Stephens grabbed an equaliser for Nostell with virtually the last kick of the ball.

Long Eaton United climbed to fourth with a 4-2 victory at Thackley.

Chris Coy had broken the deadlock for the home side early on but Long Eaton then took control of the game.

Kelvin Mushambi levelled matters before a Kevin Mabon brace and Martin Bowles strike ensured the victory despite a late second for Thackley from Richard Conway.

And, Henry Sibenge's injury-time winner saw Armthorpe Welfare sneak a 3-2 victory at home to Parkgate.

The visitors thought they had the win in the bag when Mark Caine and Ashley Longstaff had given them a two-goal cushion going into the last twenty minutes.

But, Liam Hardy and then Sibenge restored parity before the late drama saw Parkgate going away with nothing.

There was one game called off in the Premier Division as Shirebrook Town's home game with Brodsworth Welfare was called off.

That was due to a waterlogged pitch at Langwith Road.

Division One table toppers broke through the fifty-goal barrier as they thumped hosts Yorkshire Amateur, 6-1.

The win makes it thirteen games unbeaten in the league for the Seadogs.

And, Ryan Blott has become top scorer in the Division as he grabbed five of the goals to take his tally in all competitions to nineteen.

Scott Phillips grabbed the other Athletic goal from the penalty spot whilst the Ammers also scored a spot-kick courtesy of Patrick Miller.

The chasing pack of AFC Emley, Pontefract Collieries and Askern Villa all kept within touching distance by winning their games.

Emley won 4-2 at Teversal to stay second and four points behind the leaders.

A Steven Kenworthy hat-trick helped them to victory at Carnarvon Street with Mark Stuart also getting on the scoresheet for the visitors.

Kyle Gee-Pemberton and Colin Cockerill found the net for Teversal but to no avail.

Goals from Michael Long and Mark Lafferty saw Pontefract win 2-0 at Rossington Main as they stay third in the table.

And, Mel Cotton's 76th-minute winner kept fourth-placed Askern Villa a point behind the sides just above them as they won 2-1 at Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

Daniel Ferguson had given the away side the lead on 24 minutes only to have seen his effort cancelled out by Damion Liddle.

The only movement in the table saw Tadcaster Albion move above Rossington after a 1-0 victory at bottom side, Glasshoughton Welfare.

Chris Harkin broke the deadlock on 34 minutes leaving Welfare still searching for their first victory of the season.

Grimsby Borough came away from Bottesford Town with a point after a 78th-minute leveller from John Toyne saw the game finish 1-1.

Craig Mitchell had put Bottesford ahead in first-half injury time.

And, Rainworth Miners Welfare came from two goals down to earn a point at Leeds Carnegie.

Robert Devoy and Joe Rossiter had the hosts well ahead after just twelve minutes before Matt Draper and then Danny Bainbridge made sure the spoils were shared.

Meanwhile, Staveley Miners Welfare v Barton Town Old Boys and Worsbrough Bridge Athletic v Appleby Frodingham fell victim to the weather.
