NCEL Match Review #24
31st October, 2008
Phil Harrison's goal thirteen-minutes-from-time earned Bridlington Town a 1-1 draw at Selby Town to move up into seventh in the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division.
The hosts looked on course for a win to move them into the top three when Bruno Holden struck the opener on 52 minutes but they remain in fifth.
Meanwhile, in Division One, Leeds Carnegie also climbed to seventh as Andy Cooper's netted in the 49th minute to give them a 1-0 win at home to highfliers Barton Town Old Boys.
They were the only two league matches in a midweek dominated by cup action.
Hallam are the last team to claim their place in the Second Round of the Presidents Cup as they won 3-2 at Winterton Rangers.
They came from two-down after Neil Watts and Richard Whitfield's penalty had seemingly put the home side on their way after 50 minutes.
But, Hallam struck back with a spot kick of their own from Billy Rowley and then David Knaggs levelled matters on 57 before Darren Holmes completed the dramatic comeback twelve minutes later.
Hallam travel to Barton Town Old Boys in the last eight of the competition.
And, Bottesford Town set up a Wilkinson Sword Trophy Third Round clash at home to Brighouse Town after a last-gasp 3-2 win at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
They progressed courtesy of an injury time own goal by Martyn Scully as the game looked to be going into extra time with Glenn Walton and Chris Boreham netting for the hosts whilst James Leech and Phil Jackman had scored for Bottesford.
There were six West Riding County Cup First Round matches involving NCEL sides with four teams progressing at the expense of league rivals.
Glen Hall's goal in extra-time gave Division One side Brighouse Town a 2-1 win at Premier Division strugglers, Eccleshill United.
A Patrick Miller brace, with one from the penalty spot, helped Yorkshire Amateur to a 3-2 victory at Glasshoughton Welfare.
And, Pontefract Collieries also won on their travels, producing a giantkilling act with an excellent 2-0 win at Thackley with Josh Stacey and James Tomlinson scoring in the opening 32 minutes.
But, Liversedge's game at home to Askern Villa went with form as they won 4-2.
Villa did show some fight though, coming from 3-0 down to within a goal of their hosts thanks to Ryan Watton and Curtis Walker before Marcus Walmsley made sure of the victory for Sedge in injury time.
Tadcaster Albion were beaten 8-3 by hosts Ossett Albion with nine of those goals coming in a frantic first half.
Danny Pitts and Godwin Dougles had brought Taddy back into the game after they had gone two-down in the opening three minutes ? it was 2-2 nine minutes later.
Albion scored another four before Chris Harkin grabbed the away side's third on the brink of half-time but that was the end of the scoring for them as the hosts claimed their place in the Second Round.
Leeds Carnegie also bowed out, 4-0 at Silsden, with all the goals coming in an eleven minute period after the deadlock had lasted 73 minutes.
And, there was a brave challenge by Pickering Town in the North Riding Senior Cup Second Round as they hosted Whitby Town.
Chris Batchelor had put them into a sixth-minute lead before Karl Charlton equalised for the UniBond Premier visitors early in the second half.
With the scores still level at ninety minutes, it went straight to a shootout which was won by Whitby, 4-3.
