NCEL Match Review #23
26th October, 2008
It proved to be a real away day in the KoolSport NCEL as no side, in either the Premier Division and Division One, managed to win at home.
Pickering Town are the new leaders of the Premier Division as a first-half Luke Ibbotson brace helped them to a 3-1 victory at Hallam.
Karl Colley pulled one back for the hosts with eighteen minutes remaining but Steve Baxter made sure of the points soon after.
They overtake on goal difference the previous top side Mickleover Sports who were held to a 1-1 draw at home to defending champions, Winterton Rangers.
And, it looks as though Rangers were going to take the victory when Danny Clarke put them ahead with ten minutes to go.
But, former Mansfield Town striker Dan Martin levelled in the 88th minute to pick up Sports' first draw of the season.
The leading duo are five points clear of their nearest rivals as third-placed Arnold Town did not play and Hall Road Rangers could only draw 3-3 at home to Brodsworth Welfare.
But, Rangers showed great tenacity as they had to come behind on three occasions to get the point, Josh Neilsen's 50th-minute strike was the one that concluded the scoring.
Brenton Leister's injury-time winner earned Selby Town a 2-1 win at Thackley that moves them up to fifth position.
That was after Tom Matthews' 46th-minute goal cancelled out an 11th-minute opener from Chris Wood.
The Robins go above Dinnington Town who were surprisingly beaten 4-2 at home by Eccleshill United.
An Andrew Patterson double plus goals from Ryan Wood and Marcus Edwards gave Eccleshill their first points of the season and moved them off the bottom of the table.
Lincoln Moorlands Railway are the new holders of the wooden spoon after a 1-0 home loss to Long Eaton United saw them remain pointless after twelve games.
Paolo Piliero got the vital goal on 37 minutes for Long Eaton as they moved up to eighth position.
Shirebrook Town were held 1-1 at home to Nostell Miners Welfare in the battle of the other two bottom four sides.
Dave Nicholas had Nostell in the lead after just five minutes but Joe Naylor levelled halfway through the first period.
Parkgate and Maltby Main both picked up 3-2 victories on their travels.
Ryan Johnson grabbed the winner for Parkgate at Liversedge to climb up to ninth whilst their hosts fall to twelfth.
And, Maltby grabbed all their goals in the opening 24 minutes at Bridlington Town, from John Beggs and then twice from Rob Branagan.
Ashley Dexter and Chibuzor Chilaka - his sixteenth of the season - brought a mini-revival for the home side in the second half but Maltby managed to hang on for the three points.
Bridlington's ground-sharers, Scarborough Athletic, remain top of Division One with a 3-0 victory at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
Ryan Blott gave them a first-half lead before Rob Ellis and Danny Gray made sure of the win in the final six minutes.
The Seadogs are two points ahead of AFC Emley who moved up to second with a 1-0 win at Staveley Miners Welfare, Sean Hazelden with the goal on the half-hour.
Pontrefract Collieries and Askern Villa kept themselves in the mix with away victories.
The Colls won 3-1 at Teversal despite going behind to a third-minute Lewis Croucher goal.
Adam White levelled before Ben Gilbert got the second on the hour and Craig Rouse netted an injury-time penalty.
Ponte are fourth, ahead of Askern Villa who, courtesy of a Daniel Ferguson hat-trick, won 3-2 at Bottesford Town.
The two bottom sides picked up a home point each, basement outfit Glasshoughton Welfare with a 1-1 draw with Grimsby Borough whilst Tadcaster Albion finished 0-0 with Brighouse Town.
Rainworth Miners Welfare picked up a 3-1 win at Hemsworth Miners Welfare whilst Appleby Frodingham earned a point in a 1-1 draw at Rossington Main.
