NCEL Match Review #19
12th October, 2008
Two second-half goals from Karl Ashton maintained Mickleover Sports' place at the top of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division.
In what was the first weekend since August that all clubs were concentrating solely on League duties, Sports claimed an impressive 3-1 victory at Bridlington Town.
Danny Buttle's goal near the half-hour had brought the hosts back level following an Ashley Dexter own goal that opened the scoring on 13 minutes.
But, then the spotlight fell on Ashton who made sure Sports are two points clear of their nearest rivals.
Arnold Town are second after they won 1-0 at Liversedge with Mark Clifford grabbing the goal on 39 minutes.
Sedge drop to fourth just behind Pickering Town who drew 0-0 at Parkgate, the first goalless draw of the season in either the Premier Division or Division One.
Paul Palmer's 42nd-minute penalty moves Hall Road Rangers up to fifth as they won 1-0 at home to Nostell Miners Welfare.
They go above Dinnington Town who were beaten by the same scoreline by visitors Long Eaton United thanks to a strike from Martin Bowles.
Eccleshill United are still searching for their first points of the season as they were beaten 4-0 at Winterton Rangers.
Ian Twitchen's opener, a Darren Fletcher own goal and a Matthew Plant strike saw Rangers three-up by the half-hour and Danny Clarke completed the scoring on 70 minutes.
Fellow strugglers Shirebrook Town also went down 3-0 at home to Selby Town with goals from Scott Pickles and Andrew Hart in the first period, added to after the break by Brenton Leister.
James Walker found the net in Brodsworth Welfare's 1-0 win at Armthorpe Welfare whilst Hallam and Maltby Main shared the spoils at Sandygate in a 1-1 draw.
It was a fantastic day for the away sides in Division One with all of them but one winning their matches.
A Ryan Blott hat-trick helped Scarborough Athletic to a 4-1 win at Rossington Main to move them back top of the table.
They replace Barton Town Old Boys who claimed a point at Hemsworth Miners Welfare, Craig Burdick with the vital strike eighteen minutes from time to make it 2-2.
Hemsworth were overtaken into third by Askern Welfare who, thanks to a Mark Vickerage penalty and a Daniel Ferguson goal early in the second period, won 2-0 at basement side, Glasshoughton Welfare.
Rainworth Miners Welfare and Pontefract Collieries both conceded three goals on their travels but managed to win their matches.
Rainworth beat Tadcaster Albion 5-3 with Malc Brown grabbing a brace whilst Sean Hammonds also netted twice in the Colls 4-3 victory at Staveley Miners Welfare.
Yorkshire Amateur won 2-0 at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic as did Appleby Frodingham at Bottesford Town.
And, Darren Hanslip's goal twelve minutes from time saw Grimsby Borough win 2-1 at Brighouse Town after Wayne Crossley had brought the hosts level from the penalty spot.
