Clubs Prepare for League Opposition

30th June, 2011

Three Baris NCEL clubs are getting ready to face Football League opposition at the start of next month as they prepare for the new campaign.

Details of Armthorpe Welfare's pre-season friendly against Doncaster Rovers have now been finalised with the game being billed as a testimonial match for their manager Des Bennett who will be entering his thirteenth year as manager of the club.

It takes place on Thursday 7th July with gates opening at 5:15pm for what should be a fantastic night.

Doncaster Rovers are continuing their support for local football by bringing their first team squad for the game, giving fans an excellent chance to see the Championship club up close and any new signings that may have been made before the game.

Prior to the testimonial match, a team of Rovers Legends will take to the field to play a shorter 30 minute game against a team made up of the general public who have donated money to the club to secure their place on the field.

The Legends team is as follows: Mark Samways, Billy Russell, Glyn Snodin, Ian Snodin, Russ Wilcox, Colin Douglas, Daryl Pugh, Steve Gaughan, Mark Rankine, Des Bennett, Scott Maxfield, Steve Beaglehole, John Stiles, Tim Ryan.

Tickets are available from the Rovers ticket office in person or by calling 01302 762576. Armthorpe Welfare are also selling tickets at The Welfare Ground, Church Street, Armthorpe, on Saturday 25th June and Saturday 2nd July between 10am-12pm. You can also pay in cash on the night of the game.

Tickets are priced at only ?6 adults and ?4 concessions (Under 16s and Over 65s).

Parkgate welcome League Two Macclesfield Town to Roundwood for a friendly on Friday 8th July with a 7:30pm kick-off.

The Silkmen, who were formed in 1874 and finished 15th in League Two last season, will face a fierce test from the high-flying Steelmen who are looking to build on an amazing 2010/11 season.

Admission is ?5 for adults and ?2.50 for children.

Macclesfield are the second League Two team to announce a friendly down at Roundwood as Rotherham United will face Parkgate on Monday 1st August.

Bottesford Town commence their pre-season with a game against the Scunthorpe United first team on Saturday July 9th at 3.00pm.

This will be the third year in succession that Scunthorpe United have opened their pre-season campaign with a game against Bottesford, providing members of the local community and the United supporters the opportunity to view the new signings first hand.

It will also be a first for United manager Alan Knill to see his new squad in a competitive game.

Admission will be ?5 plus ?2 for concessions.
