Gedling Welcome Back Playmaker

17th April, 2007

Gedling Town playmaker Paul Scullion is back to face Eastwood Town tonight in the Notts Senior Cup Semi Final at Coronation Park.

Club captain James Jepson said: "Scully is a great player and he has had a long road back from his shoulder injury that has kept him out of the game for two seasons.

"He is a bubbly character to say the least and we have missed that around the club.

"I hope he features in the game with Eastwood because a player like that can win a game on his own."

Paul Scullion's previous clubs are Plymouth Argyle, Torquay United, St Mirren and Raith Rovers.

Hands Off Turner, Say Gedling

30th March, 2007

Gedling Town have had a second approach in the last six days from Buxton and Eastwood Town for former England under 19's star Matty Turner.

But, captain, James Jepson said: "Matty has decided to stay with us and we could not be happier.

"He is enjoying his football and got his 13th goal of the season at South Normanton Athletic last week.

"He has played at Nottingham Forest, West Bromwich Albion & two clubs in the Danish Premier division and this can only help the younger players around him."

In a further boost, Gedling Town have this week completed the signing of Martin Kearney from Stamford and Rick Ranshaw from Lincoln Moorlands.

Jepson said: "Kearns has played at Forest and Doncaster Rovers and is a great goalkeeper. He will give everybody a boost.

"Rick is a big, strong centre-forward with a great touch and an eye for goal. He is every centre-back's worst nightmare."

Jepson added: "Rennie is a top player and I hope to see him at Stoke Bardolph next season as he was a fan's favourite in his first spell with the club."

Jepson Snr Takes Over From Jepson Jnr

13th February, 2007

James Jepson has stood down as temporary manager of Gedling Town - with his dad Paul taking over.

Player-manager Jepson was running first team affairs with Devon White as his assistant but suffered a cruciate ligament injury against Borrowash Vics.

Now he has decided to step down due to work commitments and pending surgery on his knee that will leave him on crutches for weeks.

His dad Paul, who won the Notts Senior Cup as a player for Basford and is a former manager of Wollaton, will take charge with White.

James said: "I enjoyed my time in charge and it was a good opportunity.

"I enjoyed it but with work and the operation I cannot fulfil the commitments needed.

"I am still a Gedling player and although injured, I will be down to watch as much as I can and support the team and then once I am fit, I will take it from there.

"My dad Paul will take over with Devon White and I am sure they will do a great job.

"My dad has won things as a player and manager in the local game and will make a great team with Devon."

Former Long Eaton United, Nottingham Forest and Dunkirk midfielder Tom Baker is fit for first-team duty at his new club, Gedling Town.

Manager James Jepson said: "Tom has been out for just over a year after having an operation on a career-threatening medial and cruciate ligament injury.

"I have seen him get stronger and stronger in training each week.

"I am so pleased for him to be back and it will give our club a big boost to have him available.

"A weaker man would have walked away from the game, but not Tom and he is a credit to himself.

"I would also like to thank Dunkirk FC and Dave Harbottle in particular for helping Tom in his road to recovery."

Tom Baker will be official unveiled to the Town fans at Credo's in Long Eaton on Friday night from 6pm.

"He has played at a good level and his confidence and professionalism will help the younger players in my squad.

"When he signed before the game on Saturday, he got a standing ovation which shows how much the fans are looking forward to seeing him in a Town shirt again."

Aaron will be officially unveiled to the fans tonight at the Charles 2 in Rise Park from 7:30.

Jepson Out For Season

19th January, 2007

Gedling Town's player-manager James Jepson has been told he cannot take to the pitch for the rest of the season.

The bad news comes after his leg buckled underneath him after just five minutes in Tuesday night's defeat at Borrowash Victoria.

A specialist has confirmed that he has damaged his cruciate ligament and he will undergo an MRI scan in seven days time to confirm the damage and will have the operation straight away.

Jepson said: "It is a big blow for me but these things happen in football and are part of the game.

"My phone hasn't stopped ringing with fans and friends ringing me up to give me support.

"I will now concentrate on managing and look forward to making my comeback as quick as possible."

Jepson also revealed two new signings, Jon Fountain and Craig Anderson.

Craig is a player who has been round the semi-professional leagues for some time and has a good background with Notts County, Leek Town and Hucknall Town.

Jepson said: "He has a great attitude and will help some of the younger members of the side."

Jon Fountain is another player with a good background having played at Grimsby Town, Wollaton FC, Rolls Royce Celtic & Gedling Town once before.

He will act as cover for first team keeper, Danny Welsh.

Jepson revealed: "That suits both parties as Jon is committed to his rock band, Jonny Fountain and the Pass Backs, and has agreed be understudy to Dan."

Also, Curtis Shaw has been released and is due to sign for Arnold Town.

Hands Off Warning From Gedling

8th January, 2007

Gedling Town boss James Jepson has said that the club's fitness coach is going nowhere.

Speaking to the Official NCEL website, he said: "I want to set the record straight as I have had approaches for Ally Stevenitt from Conference, UniBond and NCEL Premier sides to be their Fitness Coach.

"Part of the reason our recent form has been so good is because of how fit we are and Ally is partly the reason for that.

"There is not much loyalty in football anymore but, after declining all offers, Ally has decided to stay with us and I could not be happier."

Ally has an open evening on personal training this Thursday at The Lizard Lounge in Nottingham from 8:15pm.

Meanwhile, Jepson and his assistant Devon White have been busy recruiting new faces to Gedling Town.

Nathan Scott made his debut on Saturday against Hall Road Rangers and capped his first appearance with an excellent goal.

And, Michael Grinnion will make his debut this Saturday against Worsbrough Bridge.

Chairman Roland Ash said: "He looks a big, strong, old-fashioned forward and I am sure he will upset many a back line with his direct play.

"Gedling have many young players, the average age is now nineteen and two are now on full time contracts.

"The new fitness coach can now see that his hard work is paying dividends as the lads are now still strong at ninety minutes, which could win us many matches in the future.

"I just hope people will come and see this young side play and give them support."

Gedling Fear FA Backlash

17th December, 2006

Gedling Town are expecting to be severely punished by the FA following an outburst by manager Gary Hayward in their home FA Vase tie with West Auckland.

As reported on the official website last weekend, Hayward was sacked by the NCEL side immediately after last Saturday's 2-0 defeat.

Today's Non-League Paper reports that Hayward was sent from the dugout for remarks made to referee Peter Hobday during the game.

Assistant player-manager Matthew Turner was also dismissed for kicking the ball away a few minutes afterwards, and player Tom Hogg was also later shown a red card.

The paper says that chairman Roland Ash told Hayward he was sacked as he returned to the dressing room and asked him to leave the ground.

Instead, it is reported, Hayward went to the referee's dressing room and further abused the official, and was also involved in an exchange with West Auckland boss David Bayles in the bar.

Ash told the official NCEL website last week that "Gedling Town will be severely penalised by the Football Association following events that had led up to his dismissal."

More On Hayward Departure

Gedling Town chairman Roland Ash has released a statement after the club parted company with manager Gary Hayward at the weekend.

In it, he says: "The official dismissal of Gedling Town Manager, Mr Gary Hayward, was given following Saturday's FA Vase game against West Auckland and confirmed again in conversation between the Manager and Chairman, Roland Ash, on Sunday morning.

"The board of Directors were unanimous in dismissing Mr Hayward following his indisciplines during and after the above game.

"Gedling Town will be severely penalised by the Football Association following events that had led up to his dismissal.

"The Board of Directors have appointed, on a caretaker basis, until further notice, the club captain James Jepson.

"He will be assisted by Devon White - the ex Forest and Notts County centre forward as first team coach.

"Devon will be taking the training sessions and assisting on match days.

"The club do not wish this event to escalate any further than the ex-Manager and Gedling Town have parted company for reasons stated as fact by the club.

"Anyone wishing to speak to me can do so by using emailing me at roland_923@fsmail.net."

Duo Sign For Gedling

30th July, 2006

Division One side Gedling Town have added two more players to their squad as their preparations gather pace for the new season.

18-year-old Dominic Jones is a former Wales U21 player and was quoted by his international manager Brian Flynn as "an exceptional talent".

He underlined his potential by scoring Gedling's goal in Saturday's 1-all draw against Shepshed Dynamo.

He's joined at the Riverside Ground by James Spears, a 17-year-old captured from local football.

Spears was recommended to the club by a local scout working for a Premiership side who says he has the ability to become a professional player.

Both players have been put on contract by managers Gary Hayward and Andy Freeman.

Another to have put pen-to-paper, meanwhile, is ex-Sheffield and Hallam player Lee Mellon, who impressed by scoring in the friendlies against Gresley Rovers and Buxton.

Meanwhile, club chairman Roland Ash hopes that the local public will show backing to their promotion challenge.

He told the NCEL Website that the club were disappointed that less than fifty spectators came to watch their match with Buxton last Tuesday.

He said: "We play good football that entertains the crowd and we use young local talent.

"Our ground is now possibly one of the best in the League following many recent improvements and our admission prices are possibly the lowest in the NCEL.

"We want the people of Gedling, Arnold and the surrounding areas to show that they really care and want to support local football."

The 36-year-old, who was at Meadow Lane between 1998 and 2001, has more recently been plying his trade with Kettering Town and Belper Town.

His arrival is part of a massive overhaul of the playing staff at the Riverside Ground.

Manager Gary Hayward has brought in over eighteen new players to the Division One club during the summer.

Chairman Roland Ash told the NCEL website: "Gary has worked very hard and we now have a blend of youth and experience that will hopefully give us a better finishing spot than last year."

Gedling finished fourth, missing out on promotion by three points.
