Eagles Youngster Signs For Premiership Club

31st January, 2006

Arnold Town's Ben Hutchinson has put pen to paper and signed for Premiership outfit Middlesbrough in a ?100,000 deal.

The deal went through with just six hours to spare before the transfer window closed.

Hutchinson, 18, has been in tremendous goal scoring form this season for the senior side, reserves and the youth team. His goalscoring feats have caught the eye of numerous clubs and the forward has been watched regularly by league scouts.

The striker's efforts played a huge part in the youth team's splendid run in the FA Youth Cup. Hutchinson netted 15 goals for the youth team including four in the FA Youth cup tie at Dunston. He also contributed twelve goals for the reserves as well as an impressive seven first team goals in just nine starts.

Middlesbrough took Hutchinson for a week long trial and which he impressed so much that the club have offered him a contract. The player has signed a contract for nearly two-and-a-half years until June 2008.

Arnold will receive a lump sum payment for the player as well as additional payments dependent on appearances.

Hutchinson follows in the footsteps of Chris Freestone who made the move from Arnold to Middlesbrough back in 1994.

Arnold Town Player/Manager was delighted for the player. Starbuck commented: "I am ecstatic for the lad and wish him all the best. It is great for Ben and for the club as a whole. To join a Premiership club will be a dream come true for the boy and he has got himself a decent length contract".

Former Forest Star Calvin Plummer brought Hutchinson to the club in the summer. He enthused about his find: "Ben came to us in pre-season after things didn't work out for him at Eastwood Town. At the start of the season we set him the objective of getting into the first team and he has exceeded that goal by some distance. He has been an integral part of the success of the academy and reserves sides and I wish him well. The outlook for the club is great with Middlesbrough also keen to take 16 year old Tom Watson on another trial."
