Quartet Join Sheffield

3rd June, 2006

Sheffield FC manager Dave McCarthy has moved quickly to complete the signing of four new players.

McCarthy has added Gary Townsend, Chris Dolby, James Holmshaw and Miles Thorpe to his squad ahead of the 2006/07 season.

Sheffield-born Townsend, who joins from Unibond Premier League side Ilkeston Town, is a striker who can also play in midfield.

Sheffield have also added Chris Dolby, a talented midfielder from Unibond First Division side Belper Town, James Holmshaw, a goalkeeper from Conference North side Gainsborough Trinity and experienced midfielder Miles Thorpe, who arrives from Conference North side Worksop Town.

McCarthy said: "I have wanted to sign all these four players for some time and it would seem persistence has paid off.

"All four players will add quality and experience to the talented squad already here at Sheffield.

"I am sure the supporters will enjoy seeing them play."

Sheffield just missed out on gaining promotion last season and McCarthy is planning to bolster his squad even more before the start of pre-season.
