Despite losing 14-3 at Halifax Town in the West Riding County Cup, Pontefract Collieries could find themselves back in the competition.

The Colls' official website is reporting that the Shaymen may have played an ineligible player in that match.

It says: "Substitute Simon Rawnsley scored the Shaymen's 11th goal in the 65th minute in their record 14-3 romp against Pontefract in last week's tie.

"But he had already played in the competition for Bradford Park Avenue in the First Round, when he also scored in a 3-1 win against Yorkshire Amateur.

"A decision is yet to be made by the West Riding County FA as to what punishment will be meted out should the circumstances be proven.

"However, it is normal practice to apply the rules to the extent that the winning club are thrown out of the competition.

"This would put Colls into the Third Round with a home tie, ironically, against Bradford Park Avenue."
