Sheffield FC missed out on a chance to go top of the Premier Division after being beaten at home by Carlton Town.

Chris Atkins' goal eleven minutes from time gave all three points to the visitors who now move up to eleventh in the table whilst Sheffield stay second.

That was the only league action in midweek with the other four matches being West Riding County Cup First Round ties.

Armthorpe Welfare were the biggest winners, beating UniBond Premier side Ossett Town on penalties.

The game was 2-2 after extra time and Welfare won 4-2 on spot-kicks to send the home team through to a Second Round tie at another UniBond outfit, Harrogate Railway.

Liversedge also progressed as they comfortably won the all-NCEL tie of the round at Garforth Town.

They were three-up after just twenty minutes through goals from Richard Marshall, Danny Lowe and Patrick Mumbley.

Marshall then added his second with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining to claim a thoroughly deserved 4-0 win.

Sedge's reward is, like Armthorpe, a trip to Harrogate but this time to face Harrogate Town.

The Second Round ties are due to be played at the end of November.

Tadcaster Albion bowed out of the competition at Halifax Town despite a couple of cracking first half strikes from Steve Coates and Guiseppe Downing.

They went down 7-2 to the National Conference side - Shane Smeltz grabbed a hat-trick for the Shaymen.

And, in the only game played on Monday night, Yorkshire Amateur went down 3-1 at Bradford Park Avenue.

Leyton McHale got a late consolation for the Ammers but they were never in the game at their Unibond League rivals.
