NCEL Saturday Review

Maltby Main and Parkgate regained their places at the summit of their respective divisions following Saturday's action.

In the Premier Division, Maltby had Scott Somerville to thank for their success as an 88th-minute goal from him saw them claim a single goal victory over Carlton Town.

They replace Pickering Town who lost 3-2 at home to Eccleshill United.

A James Hanson hat-trick claimed the victory for the visitors whilst Ricky Greening and Mark Swales were on the scoresheet for the Pikes.

Pickering drop to third as Selby Town claimed second spot with a 2-1 win at Armthorpe Welfare.

There's now a three-point gap between the leading trio and the rest as the sides just below them at the start of play, Hallam and Sheffield, both failed to pick up maximum points.

Hallam were undone by three goals in three minutes around half-time at home to Thackley.

They went ahead after just three minutes through Scott Bates before Sean Clifford equalised in injury time, Dean Walters gave the away side the lead in the opening seconds after the interval and Matthew Mathers grabbed a third on 48 minutes.

James Tevendale pulled one back five minutes later but they could not get themselves level as Thackley held on for their first win of the season.

Sheffield, meanwhile, claimed a late point at Glasshoughton Welfare as Jon Pickess grabbed the equaliser in a 2-2 draw in the 86th minute.

Joining the two Sheffield sides on eighteen points are Retford United and Liversedge.

Retford also needed a late leveller to claim a 2-2 draw at Mickleover Sports, Neil Harvey with the strike as the game went into injury time.

Liversedge defeated bottom side Shirebrook Town by a single goal, but the visitors made them work hard for it and frustrated them until the 84th minute when Danny Lowe broke the deadlock.

Shirebrook's next game is a home tussle with local rivals Glapwell who were involved in another derby match on Saturday.

Ian Streather gave the Hall Corner side an early lead at home to Sutton Town but a Phil Bignall brace in the second half saw the Snipes win 2-1 and their boss Lee Wilson victorious on his first visit to the club he left in the summer.

Biggest winners of the day were Garforth Town who comfortably defeated visitors Brodsworth Welfare 4-0.

Duncan Williams, Nick Jaggar and two from Karl Simpkins made it an easy afternoon for Simon Clifford's men.

Arnold Town drew 1-1 at home to Long Eaton United, a result that leaves both sides in the bottom half of the table.

Parkgate stormed back to the top of Division One with a 3-0 win at Staveley Miners Welfare, Matt Outram, Ryan Johnson and Brian Cusworth - his fifteenth for the season - with the goals.

But, keeping up with them are NCEL newcomers Nostell Miners Welfare who won the battle of two promoted sides at home to AFC Emley, 4-2.

Oli Johnson and Dave Watts had Nostell two up after just seventeen minutes before Emley replied through Wayne James late in the first half.

Ben Gilbert, though, made sure of the victory for Welfare with two goals in seven minutes midway through the second period before Kieran Ryan grabbed a late Emley consolation.

AFC Emley now find themselves bottom after Yorkshire Amateur won 3-0 at home to Rossington Main, a result that moved them up to fourteenth ahead of Rossington and Borrowash Victoria.

The Vics lost a thrilling seven-goal thriller at home to Teversal.

Ashley O'Connell had given them a half-time lead before Matthew Fletcher equalised in the opening minute of the second period.

And then, five goals in the last fifteen minutes made it a barnstorming finale at the Robinson Construction Bowl.

Karl Reynolds regained the lead for Borrowash before, in a nine minute spell, Craig Hall, Lee Rhodes and Ryan Williams put Teversal 4-2 up.

The Vics refused to lie down, however, and Nathan Sander pulled one back in injury time but it was too little too late and the Tevie Boys took the points to move up to twelfth.

Winterton Rangers' run of twelve straight league win came to a halt as they were held to a goalless draw at South Normanton Athletic.

They remain third, two points behind the Division One leaders.

There were also no goals at the Riverside Ground where Gedling Town took on Pontefract Collieries.

Just behind Gedling in the table now are Tadcaster Albion who moved up to sixth after a 2-1 win at Hall Road Rangers.

Lincoln Moorlands climbed to seventh with a 4-0 home win over Dinnington Town.
