NCEL Midweek Review
13th October, 2006
All three NCEL sides in FA Vase replay action in midweek made it through to the Second Round.
Retford United were the most convincing winners as they thrashed hosts Bolehall Swifts 8-0.
Mick Godber had the Badgers two up after just six minutes but Oliver Chappell's 23rd minute strike was the last goal of the opening period.
Neil Harvey, Ben Chambers, Greg Wright, Steve Wilkinson and a second from Chappell made it a second-half onslaught which means Retford go on to host Central Midlands side Rainworth Miners Welfare.
Sutton Town also progressed on their travels with a 3-0 win at Brierly & Hagley on Wednesday - a Phil Bignall brace and one from Aaron Shelley claiming the victory with what boss Lee Wilson called a "professional" performance.
Parkgate forgot the disappointment of letting a three goal lead slip in the original tie to go through at home to Trafford on Tuesday.
Brian Cusworth and Caine Cheetham found the net for them before Danny Doherty got a late consolation for the North West Counties side.
Sutton Town now go to Leamington and Parkgate travel to Curzon Ashton on November the 18th.
Yorkshire Amateur's upturn in fortune continued as they claimed one of the two final League Cup second round places up for grabs.
Goals from Kyle Wilkinson and Wayne Anderson late on saw them beat visitors Borrowash Victoria 2-0 and the reward is an away trip to Winterton Rangers.
Dinnington Town join them in the last 32 after a 3-1 home win over Gedling Town.
Liam Cartledge and Craig Atkinson put them two-up before Anthony Anderson pulled one back for the visitors.
Martin Wade though ended Gedling's resistance by putting the game out of their reach with two minutes remaining.
There was also one Wilkinson Sword Trophy tie as Staveley Miners Welfare made it through to the final four with a 2-0 win at home to Hall Road Rangers thanks to goals from James Baker and Wesley Pierce.
The biggest win in the County Cups came in the Derbyshire Senior Cup as Shirebrook Town won 6-1 against visitors Graham Street Prims, Duncan Bray scoring five for the Langwith Road outfit including two penalties.
South Normanton needed extra time to get past Sandiacre Town, Damien Powell with the winner in the 115th minute.
Athletic had earlier gone behind through an early Joe Atkinson own goal but he made amends with the equaliser from the penalty spot.
And, in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup, Rossington Main won 3-1 at home to Yorkshire Main whilst, in an all-NCEL clash, Nostell Miners Welfare went through with a 2-1 win at Maltby Main.
Sheffield have moved up to second as four matches were played in the Premier Division.
Gary Townsend, Andy Brownrigg and Gavin Smith found the net in a 3-1 win at Thackley - even though their hosts had taken the lead in the opening minute through Andy Howland.
Selby Town and Hallam shared the points at the Flaxley Road Ground with a 2-2 draw that moves Selby to seventh, one place behind Hallam.
Armthorpe Welfare moved away from the bottom sides in the table with a 3-2 home win over Liversedge.
There was another opening minute goal here as Gareth Hamlet put Sedge ahead but Welfare led by half-time thanks to Adam Lee and Liam Muirhead.
Craig Farrand levelled matters in the second period but Gary Jones claimed the points for the hosts with twenty minutes remaining.
And, the match between Brodsworth Welfare and Carlton Town ended goalless.
