NCEL Weekend Preview

27th April, 2007

The Premier Division title could be decided this weekend whilst the battle for third place takes a dramatic twist.

Retford United know that victory at home to Eccleshill United will secure them the Championship whilst a draw would mean they would have to avoid a fourteen-goal defeat in their last match.

Meanwhile, the fight for who finishes in the top three behind Retford and Sheffield is hotting up.

The sides currently fourth and third meet at the Genix Healthcare Stadium as Garforth Town host Carlton Town.

A win would secure third place for the victor whilst a draw would leave Carlton there but they would then be looking elsewhere to see if they stay there.

For a draw would leave the back door open for Selby Town to snatch it at the last moment.

But, they would need to win both their final matches including this weekend's home game with Thackley to have any chance of doing so.

Glapwell will secure a top six finish should they be victorious at home to Maltby Main whilst eighth-placed Sutton Town entertain local rivals Shirebrook Town at The Fieldings with the visitors keen for three points that finish out of the bottom two.

Pickering Town make the trip to Glasshoughton Welfare whilst Liversedge are at home to Arnold Town and Mickleover Sports entertain Hallam.

Meanwhile, it is the last round of matches in Division One with the only matter to be sorted being who will finish second behind Parkgate.

Winterton Rangers are favourites as they know a point at home to next-to-bottom Yorkshire Amateur will mean they will stay there.

South Normanton Athletic are looking to leapfrog Rangers on the final day but, as well as hoping Rangers slip up, they must get a victory at fourth-placed Nostell Miners Welfare for that to happen.

In the other four matches, Lincoln Moorlands could go into the top four with victory at home to AFC Emley whilst Hall Road Rangers host Borrowash Victoria, Gedling Town go to Tadcaster Albion and Pontefract Collieries are at Teversal.
