NCEL Bank Holiday Review

10th April, 2007

Congratulations to Sheffield who became the first team to secure promotion on Bank Holiday Monday.

Their 3-1 home victory over Armthorpe Welfare means they are guaranteed a top three finish and UniBond football next season.

It was a whirlwind start at the Bright Finance Stadium as Gavin Smith gave the hosts the lead on 2 minutes before Bruno Holden equalised for Welfare seconds later.

Chris White then restored Sheffield?s advantage in the fifth minute before a Nathan Iley own goal halfway through the opening period gave them the points.

But, the chase is still on for who wins the title as Retford United keep firmly on the leaders? tails.

The Badgers? 3-0 win at Shirebrook Town means they remain three points behind Sheffield but with three games in hand.

In the race for promotion, meanwhile, Garforth Town have moved up into third place after a Jason St Juste hat-trick helped them to a 4-1 victory at Thackley.

Bret Renshaw got the other goal for Simon Clifford?s men whilst Nick Doherty scored a late equaliser for the hosts who remain nineteenth.

Carlton Town fall to fourth after a 2-1 defeat at home to Glasshoughton Welfare, a loss that ended a seven match winning streak.

Aidan Brady had put Carlton ahead early on but Stuart Dove equalised in the opening minute of the second half and Welfare grabbed all three points and moved up to fifteenth with a Carl Fox strike two minutes from time.

Glapwell kept their outside hope of promotion alive with a 4-1 win at Eccleshill United.

Ian Brown scored two whilst Dave Davies and Colin Cockerill found the net for the Hall Corner side whilst the hosts one piece of joy came from Stuart Waite.

Selby Town will still think they have a chance of going up despite a single goal defeat at Sutton Town, Dean Short with the vital strike on 51 minutes.

A 28th-minute goal from David Wilkinson saw Long Eaton United claim a 1-0 home victory over Liversedge whilst Pickering Town picked up all three points at Gedling Road with a 2-1 win at Arnold Town.

And, Jordan Stock's 40th-minute equaliser earned Maltby Main a point at home to Hallam in a 1-1 draw after Andrew Wood had put the visitors ahead.
