NCEL Weekend Preview

2nd February, 2007

The leading two NCEL Premier Division sides are both on their travels in a full programme this Saturday in the top flight.

The side at the helm, Sheffield, have perhaps the toughest trip with a journey to seventh-placed Carlton Town.

Retford United, the team in second, go to bottom side Brodsworth Welfare as overwhelming favourites.

The Badgers enter the game on a fifteen-match unbeaten run whilst Welfare have not won in 23 games in an encounter that pits the best attack versus the worst defence.

But, as we know, statistics can mean nothing and Brodsworth will be looking to upset the odds and close the gap on the sides above them.

Their closest rivals, Shirebrook Town, also have a tough match as they go to third-placed Maltby Main.

Mickleover Sports, who are fourth, have a home game against Eccleshill United whilst the other two sides in the top six, Glapwell and Garforth Town, meet at Hall Corner in what is an intriguing tie.

There is an all-Nottinghamshire clash as Arnold Town entertain Sutton Town whilst a similar mid-table clash sees Liversedge at home to Armthorpe Welfare.

Hallam welcome Selby Town to Sandygate whilst lowly Thackley travel to Long Eaton United and Pickering Town host Glasshoughton Welfare to complete the Premier Division schedule.

There are seven matches in Division One with all but South Normanton Athletic in the top six in action.

Top side Parkgate are at home to an improving Borrowash Victoria whilst Winterton Rangers will be looking to close the eleven-point gap with victory at Gedling Town.

Meanwhile, the clash of the day sees third-placed Nostell Miners Welfare entertain Lincoln Moorlands with both sides knowing a victory is massively important for their promotion challenge.

Bottom side Rossington Main do not have a game, leaving the two teams above them, Yorkshire Amateur and Teversal, with a chance to increase the distance between them.

The Ammers, though, go to a Tadcaster Albion side desperate to get closer to the top five whilst Teversal go to Pontefract Collieries in a reversed fixture as Carnarvon Street is still suffering from storm damage.

Dinnington Town are at home to AFC Emley whilst Hall Road Rangers go to Worsbrough Bridge.

And, a friendly involving South Normanton at home to Blackwell Miners Welfare has been called off as their Central Midlands League opponents are unable to raise a team for the fixture.
