NCEL Weekend Preview

26th January, 2007

Sheffield will be looking to maintain their handsome lead at the top of the Premier Division in what is another thrilling day of action in the NCEL.

They host mid-table Long Eaton United knowing that a victory could extend their hold on top spot to fourteen points.

Their closest opponents Maltby Main have a tough task as they travel to an ever-improving Sutton Town, who are eleventh.

And, third-placed Mickleover Sports have to go to local rivals Glapwell who are also in the top six in what is surely one of the games of the day.

Retford United, who begin the day in fourth, host eight-placed Hallam whilst Garforth Town, in fifth, also have a home match against Liversedge.

At the foot of the table, new basement side Brodsworth Welfare will be looking to move off the bottom within a week as they entertain Arnold Town.

But, the side they replaced there, Shirebrook Town, are also at home although they have to fend off top-seven outfit Carlton Town at Langwith Road.

And, Thackley, who are eighteenth, host Selby Town whilst the side just above them, Armthorpe Welfare, entertain Glasshoughton Welfare.

In Division One, all four top sides are on their travels in a day that could shape the future of the table.

Parkgate, who are top by eight points, go to seventh-placed Gedling Town whilst Winterton Rangers are at Pontefract Collieries.

South Normanton Athletic visit AFC Emley whilst Hall Road Rangers entertain fourth-placed Nostell Miners Welfare.

Hoping to take advantage of any away-day slip-ups are Lincoln Moorlands, who are fifth and at home to Staveley Miners Welfare.

Conversely, the bottom three sides are all at home as they try to pick up vital points to move away from the wooden spoon prize.

Current favourites for it, Rossington Main, host Tadcaster Albion knowing they must start closing the nine-point gap between themselves and the two above them.

But, Teversal and Yorkshire Amateur will be keen to claim home victories and ease their worries against Borrowash Victoria and Dinnington Town, respectively.
