Ammers Vow To Bounce Back From Flooding

31st December, 2010

Yorkshire Amateur have, like many clubs, been dealt a cruel blow as they arrived to the clubhouse on Tuesday to find it under almost a foot of water.

Due to several bursts in the main pipe, the clubhouse has been totally wrecked with damage caused by falling ceilings and water which has meant the entire building has now become a no-go zone.

Fortunately, the changing rooms and hospitality areas are undamaged as they are in a separate block.

Several committee members and local builders Hodder and Brookes have spent the rest of the week clearing the debris, mopping out the remaining water and removing the damaged floors, equipment and furniture.

Chairlady Jeni French said: "Yorkshire Amateur have overcome many obstacles in the past and this one won't slow us down.

"Whilst it was a horrific scene to walk into on Tuesday, spirits remain high and, as a club once more, we have pulled together to get started straight away on the clean-up operation.

"Hodder and Brookes have been fantastic and are working hard to ensure there is little or no disruption to our first home game on 15th January.

"Here at the club, we are used to spots of bad luck. But, if this is what we get for going eleven unbeaten, then bring on the next eleven as it won't affect our lads!

"In fact, it makes them more determined to show people we are made of resilient stuff here at Bracken Edge.

"We are having one of our best seasons in a long time under the guidance of Paul Lines and Steve Milner and are currently sitting fourth in the league.

"Our aim is to stay at this end of the table no matter what life throws at us."

League Cup Win Marred by Serious Injury

20th October, 2010

Yorkshire Amateur's win in the KoolSport NCEL League Cup was marred by a serious injury to one of their influential players.

They assured their place in the Second Round beating visitors Worsborough Bridge Athletic, the winning goal in the 2-1 victory scored by Chris Hitching from the penalty spot.

However, the penalty was given when regular central midfielder John Douglas was brought crashing down in the box, suffering a suspected very seriously broken arm.

The game was delayed by at least ten minutes as the emergency services were called.

A spokesperson at Yorkshire Amateur said: "JD was having a fantastic game and by no means did this incident reflect the game as, whilst it was a tough battle, it was certainly not a malicious or intentional challenge.

"We would like to express our thanks to the Worsborough Bridge management team who helped during the incident and all the people involved in ensuring JD was looked after and that the ambulance could reach him swiftly.

"We are still waiting to hear about the seriousness of the break but the team, management, committee and all at Yorkshire Amateur wish JD a speedy recovery."

16-Year-Old Keeper is Man of the Match

19th October, 2010

A goalkeeper aged 16 years and 2 months has been named Man of the Match in only his third game.

Ciaran Gibson, who had made his debut the previous week, claimed the award for Yorkshire Amateur in Saturday's KoolSport NCEL Division One 1-1 draw at AFC Emley.

A proud Gibson said: "I enjoyed this game and with confidence I thought I commanded my area and made some good stops including a cheeky triple save to secure my team the draw."

Yorkshire Amateur's manager Paul Lines confirmed: "Over the last three first team games Ciaran has grown in stature!

"In the second half of Saturday's game he came of age and produced a mature performance for such a tender age.

"He made some vital saves as well as all the catching, positioning, kicking and distribution bread and butter stuff.

"He's one for the future and deserved to be the Man of the Match! We have to use kid gloves and nurture him!"

Ammers Friendly Change

28th July, 2010

Yorkshire Amateur have announced that Barnsley have unfortunately had to pull out of their friendly scheduled for Friday.

But, the KoolSport NCEL Division One club have been able to secure another match for the weekend.

They said: "Whilst we are obviously disappointed as the lads have been training towards this game all season, we thank Barnsley for their advanced notice and their promise to re-arrange at a later date.

"Being in need of a replacement match at such short notice is hard at this time of year, so we would like to thank Frickley Athletic who have agreed to come and play us on Saturday 31st July at Bracken Edge.

"Frickley are an Evo-Stik Prem team and will be a tough test for the Ammers but, after the pre-season training and games so far and especially the Wakefield result, we are sure it will be a good competitive game."

Sponsor Joy For Ammers

22nd July, 2010

Yorkshire Amateur have managed to secure sponsorship deals with four separate companies ahead of the new season.

The club have thanked Howarth Timber, Jewson, Mathewson and Rosemond Limited and Alternative Windows for their backing in what is an extremely tough time for businesses.

Director of Football Graham Hodder said: "Without the backing of these companies, clubs like ours could not continue.

"We are extremely grateful for their continued support and it has enabled us to get new home and away kits as well as tracksuits and new training equipment, all of which were very needed here at Yorkshire Amateur and for that we are very thankful."

Yorkshire Amateur's pre-season continues this evening with the visit of Harrogate Railway to Bracken Edge, kick-off 7.45pm.

And, the KoolSport NCEL Division One side are delighted by the way preparations are going.

Chairlady Jeni French said: "With the new management team of Paul Lines and Steve Milner, pre-season training has been fantastic.

"The squad have been working hard with players, both old and new, looking extremely ready for the season ahead.

"There's a real buzz at the club and we are thoroughly looking forward to the start of the season.

"And, we are delighted that Barnsley have agreed to come along and play us in what will be one of our last pre-season games."
