Funk Makes Move to Scarborough
31st March, 2011
Rudy Funk has left Shirebrook Town and become manager at Scarborough Athletic after the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division club parted company with Paul Olsson.
The Seadogs announced that their boss had gone in a statement posted on their official website that said: "The Board of Scarborough Athletic wishes to announce that it has parted company with Manager Paul Olsson by mutual consent.
"Paul, who took over from Brian France earlier this season, leaves the club with immediate effect.
"It was felt that, whilst results are likely to yield a creditable top-half finish to the season, the club aspires to even greater success and to step further up the football pyramid in the coming seasons.
"Every director is unanimous in their appreciation of Paul's efforts, and we sincerely hope that he leaves the club on a positive note having just completed the double over our near neighbours and high flyers Tadcaster Albion."
And, this afternoon, it was confirmed to the KoolSport Northern Counties East League by the club that Funk is Olsson's successor with immediate effect.
Speculation had been rife after a club statement had appeared on Shirebrook's messageboard last night that said the following: "Rudy Funk tonight (30/3/11) tendered his resignation as first team manager of Shirebrook Town FC, to take up the vacant position at Scarborough.
"We are grateful for the outstanding job Rudy has done at STFC in such a short space of time, and wish him every success in the future.
"Mickey Taylor and Dougie Etches will take responsibilities for first team affairs for the rest of the season.
"I have been with Rudy tonight some 20 minutes after him accepting the position at Scarborough and understand how difficult the decision has been for him, but I do understand that it is an offer he could not refuse, and our friendship is as strong as ever."
It was a busy day for Scarborough with three of their players also moving on transfer deadline day with Michael Price going to Hall Road Rangers and Richard Medcalf and Michael Gibson going to Barton Town Old Boys.
