Championship Tests For Rangers

4th June, 2010

Winterton Rangers will be welcoming two Championship sides to West Street as they prepare for the new KoolSport NCEL Premier Division campaign.

Hull City and Scunthorpe United will both be bringing first team squads for their clashes in July.

Rangers are also excited about the start of what will hopefully be an annual friendly against Pontefract Collieries.

It will be in memory of Jonny Leigh who played for both clubs in the NCEL and who tragically died aged just 20 in 2005 when his heart suddenly stopped beating whilst he slept.

A Rangers spokesman said: "When Pontefract approached us, we were delighted to take part.

"Hopefully we can raise some money to donate to the Jonny Leigh fund."

The fund raises money for charities such as Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) and to generate awareness of Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS).

Winterton's pre-season schedule so far is:

Monday 12th July - Winterton v Hull City - 7.45pm
Saturday 17th July - Winterton v Scunthorpe United - 3pm
Wednesday 21st July - Pontefract v Winterton - 7.30pm
