Seasiders 'Not Going Up'
5th May, 2010
Bridlington Town chairman Pete Smurthwaite has said that the Seasiders will not be going up into the Evo-Stik League.
He was speaking on tonight's BBC Humberside's Sportstalk programme where he was a guest.
When asked if the Premier Division champions were going to move up the pyramid, he said: "I had to inform the Football Association Leagues Committee by yesterday and, unfortunately, the answer is no.
"I've been looking for additional sponsorship to cover the increased costs of travelling so many miles.
"Our travelling distance would increase from 1,300 to 2,600 miles to away games.
"We would go into a league where there are eighteen clubs over the Pennines and only four clubs in Yorkshire.
"Unfortunately, we don't want to get into financial difficulties as the club was about four years ago.
"So, we'll stay where we are and we'll reassess it next season."
It means that runners-up Rainworth Miners Welfare could take their place in next season's Evo-Stik League.
