Wrens Appeal FA Cup Exit

28th September, 2009

Rainworth Miners Welfare have put in a formal report and appeal to the Football Association following their 2-1 FA Cup defeat at Bedworth United on Saturday.

The basis of the Wrens' appeal centres around what they believe was insufficient added time allowed by referee Rob Lovegrove at the end of the match following two lengthy second half stoppages.

Wrens officials have claimed that there were two five-minute delays in play.

The first was to allow home keeper Andrew Kemp to be treated for an ankle injury.

And, the second was from a riot sparked by an alleged assault on Rainworth physio Dave Nicholls by a player on the Bedworth bench.

The Wrens say that should have meant a minimum of ten added minutes, on top of which another two-and-a-half minutes should have been included for five substitutions, and then more time for any other delays.

But, Mr Lovegrove added only just over seven minutes before blowing to end the match.

The Wrens have claimed that the failure of the official to add on sufficient time to cover these delays denied them the full ninety minutes in which they could possibly have equalised.

And, they are suggesting to the FA that at the very least the game should be replayed, if not awarded to them because of the alleged misconduct of the home bench and supporters.
