Rennie Officiates Nostell Opener
17th July, 2009
Former Premiership referee Uriah Rennie is set to take charge of Saturday's opener at Middle Lane between Nostell MW and Stockport County.
The Sheffield-based official, recently removed from the Select Group after failing to recover from injury, is still as sharp as ever.
And his long and distinguished career has seen him referee many high-profile matches since his appointment to the Premiership back in 1997.
However, he has also attracted his fair share of criticism over the years.
In November 2005, he was mentioned in a remark by a stadium announcer at a Football League Championship match between Preston North End and Crystal Palace.
When the teams came back onto the pitch after half time, the man with the mic was heard to say: "Welcome to the second half of the Uriah Rennie show!"
To avoid a repeat of that unsavory incident, we can only hope that Nostell PA man Pete Owens keeps his acerbic wit under wraps this weekend.
