Staveley Hotshot Reaches Goal Milestone

6th April, 2011

Staveley Miners Welfare's hotshot Ryan Damms did not only celebrate his team's KoolSport NCEL Division One title win on Saturday but also his own personal scoring milestone.

His two goals, which earned his side a 2-2 draw at home to Louth Town that was enough to secure the trophy, took him to 100 since he joined the club - where his father, Terry Damms, is chairman - in 2007.

Playing in his first season as an eighteen-year-old, he scored 22 goals under the guidance of the then Staveley manager Nigel Ransom who had managed Ryan in his Juniors days.

In 2008/2009, Ryan (pictured right) scored eighteen goals despite not making as many first team starts and then, under the guidance of Billy Fox the following season, he bagged 24.

This time round, he has netted 36 times making a grand total of 100 league and cup goals as the club's best goalscorer in their history.

Speaking of Ryan's achievements, Fox said: "It isn't easy for any player whose Dad may be involved at any football club but Ryan plays just like any other team player and doesn't look or expect any favouritism.

"Ryan just gets on with his game without any fuss or drama and is a pleasure to manage. He is making goal scoring look easy and he has been so important to us this season."

Ryan is the first to compliment his manager and team mates, saying: "Billy and Nigel (Ransome) are great to play for and Billy believes in playing football in style not just humping it forward and that helps me.

"The lads are great to play alongside and in a great team the goals are there for you and it's no coincidence that this season is my best ever goal tally.

"But, it's about the team not me. I hope we can keep the lads together and who knows what we may achieve with them."
