Villa See Massive Change of Fortune
29th October, 2010
The fortunes of Askern Villa looked to have changed as they have stormed up the KoolSport NCEL Division One table in recent weeks.
Only a few weeks ago, they were in sixteenth position but, after their 2-0 win at AFC Emley in midweek, they have now moved into fifth spot.
Tomorrow's home fixture with Worsbrough Bridge Athletic will cause a few problems for manager Brian Johnston and his assistant Mark Vickerage, though, as it will be the first time everyone is available for selection - a nice dilemma to have.
Villa have struggled to get a settled side this season, using 32 players so far with injuries, suspensions, holidays and work commitments all playing a part.
Danny Taylor and Matthew Lepianka, who have been out since the end of August, are still long term injuries and are not expected to start training until the turn of the year.
Six players have been signed by the club in the last few weeks to strengthen the squad and it has paid off with healthy competition for places.
Lee Wilkinson and Mel Cotton have both been outstanding since they rejoined the club this month, while Ian Farmery and Liam Nelthorpe have both settled well.
And, there could be more new faces as the management are continually on the lookout to add to the squad.
