Boro Elect First Chairwoman
24th September, 2009
At the club's AGM this week, Grimsby Borough elected the first chairwoman in their history.
Rona Simons has been the club photographer for several years and became vice-chair last season.
She was, for several years, photographer at Shrewsbury Town as well as being head of special needs at a comprehensive school in Cleethorpes for over thirty years.
She spoke of the many challenges of being chair of an amateur club in time of recession but is very proud of Borough's history of working through difficult times to reach the level of football, professionalism and sportsmanship they have attained today.
She is honoured to have been elected to the post and is determined to lead Borough forward towards an even brighter future at their new ground.
Her election came following the resignation of Chairman Sean Hall who has stood down after being in the role for two years, during which time the club have moved into the KoolSport NCEL and are building a new ground at Bradley Pitches.
Sean said in announcing his resignation that he wished every success to Borough and he hoped that one day, when pressures were less, he would like to return to the club in some capacity.
The club have said they accepted his resignation with regret and thanked him for all his efforts.
But, Boro's newly reformed committee ended the meeting in a high spirited mood with everyone believing that the club was definitely going in the right direction.
