Brier Signs Ex-Leeds United Player
2nd July, 2009
Brighouse Town have signed former Leeds United and Doncaster Rovers midfielder Simon Watson.
The 29-year-old played alongside the likes of Gordon Strachan, David Batty, Harry Kewell and Jonathan Woodgate at Elland Road before suffering a serious leg injury which set him back in the professional game.
He joined Doncaster Rovers then Harrogate Town, who he helped win the UniBond Division One title.
He has also had spells at Farsley Celtic, Liversedge, Harrogate Railway and Tadcaster Albion.
"I've known Simon for quite a few years, through my involvement at Liversedge," Brighouse boss Mark Brier told the Evening Courier.
"He scored one of the best goals I've ever seen at this level of football, playing for my reserve side at Clayborn which just had people's jaws hanging open.
"He is calm, adds massive experience and quality to our club and will help our first team and the younger players with his knowledge.
"He's not fully fit yet after an operation and we'll take it steady but I'm delighted to have him at the club."
Town have also signed former Halifax Town youth player Glen O'Gara.
The defender has played in the United States and last season was at Farsley Celtic.
