Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2018/19 #58

8th April, 2019

Worksop Town need just five points from their remaining four Toolstation NCEL Premier Division matches to claim the title after their fourteenth league victory in a row at the weekend.

A 4-1 home win over Harrogate Railway Athletic in front of a crowd of 548 moved them closer to their goal whilst the Rail remain rooted to the bottom of the table, two points away from safety with three matches to play.

Matthew Reay and Lee Hill gave the Tigers the perfect start but their visitors rallied and pulled a goal before half-time through Aaron Kitao with Connor Brunt and Ross Goodwin confirming the victory in the second period.

Second-placed Penistone Church could only pick up a point on their travels after a first-half Nathan Keightley brace was cancelled out by hosts Bottesford Town through Wayne Graves and Stephen McCarron in a 2-2 draw that leaves Penistone five points off the summit.

Bridlington Town move up into third after a commanding 7-0 win at home to Eccleshill United, Joe McFadyen's hat-trick added to by a double from Brett Agnew as well as one each from Christopher Jenkinson and Chris Adams.

They go above Yorkshire Amateur who took the lead at seventh-placed Maltby Main with a Fernando Moke penalty but were pegged back in stoppage time, Jordan Turner's last gasp effort making it a 1-1 draw.

Hemsworth Miners Welfare drop to fifth after a 3-2 loss at Knaresborough Town in which they were trailing 2-0 at the interval thanks to goals from Luke Stewart and William Lenehan.

Nash Connolly halved the deficit but the two goal cushion was restored by Adam Baker before Adam Knight grabbed a second for Hemsworth on 79.

A Joshua Nodder penalty and Parirs Dixon's strike maintained Handsworth Parramore's grip on eighth spot with a 2-0 win at sixth-placed Staveley Miners Welfare.

Hall Road Rangers missed out on a chance to move clear of the relegation zone as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Barton Town in a game that was goalless until the 70th minute when Owen Marshall and Gareth Barlow put the Swans into an unassailable lead before Reagan Waud converted a penalty for the home side.

Lamin Janneh, Alhassane Keita and Luke Aldrich netted for Albion Sports in a 3-0 home defeat of Garforth Town whilst Liversedge won 2-1 at Thackley, courtesy of goals from Brandon Kane and Joe Walton.

The Division One title race looks set to go down to the wire with any of the top five still in with a chance of being champions.

Grimsby Borough stay top despite a 3-1 loss at Campion, a win that moves their hosts up to second with goals from Omar Habeeb, Talent Ndlovu and Alex Cusack whilst Daniel Trott got on the scoresheet for the visitors.

Campion are three points away from the top and have two games in hand, with third-placed Hallam a further point behind after a 0-0 draw at East Yorkshire Carnegie.

Winterton Rangers are up to fourth after a last-minute 1-0 win at Parkgate, Haydn Ward's injury time own goal giving them the victory that moves them to within six points of Borough.

A 2-0 loss at Swallownest, Nathan Morritt's opener added to by an Oliver Grady penalty, saw Nostell Miners Welfare lose ground and they fall to fifth, seven points away from the summit.

At the other end of the table, basement side FC Bolsover picked up a massive three points at the expense of the team they are chasing just outside the relegation zone as they look to pull off the greatest of escapes.

Jack Warwick's late double, the first from the penalty spot, closes the gap between the Langwith Road outfit and Ollerton Town to six points with three games remaining.

Next-to-bottom Harworth Colliery would have moved out of the drop zone with a win at home to sixth-placed Dronfield Town but it was the visitors who prevailed with a 2-1 victory, Daniel Wood and Matthew Ord with their goals before Matthew Robinson pulled one back for the hosts.

Worsbrough Bridge Athletic strengthened their claim for a top-seven finish as Kyle Wordsworth got both of their goals in a 2-0 home victory over Glasshoughton Welfare.

A late fightback saw Rossington Main come from 2-0 down at home to AFC Emley to draw 2-2 and climb a place to sixteenth, Jonathan Fusco and Jack Crook rescuing a point after goals for the visitors from Benjamin Burnett and James Stafford.

Main go above Shirebrook Town whose 2-1 loss at Skegness Town means they remain just three points above the drop zone, Carter Widdowson equalising for the Derbyshire side after an early opener from Jordan Smith but Gary King made sure of the victory for the hosts midway through the second period.
