Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2018/19 #49

7th March, 2019

Hemsworth Miners Welfare and Liversedge became the first teams to book their places in this season's Toolstation NCEL League Cup semi-finals after home victories in midweek.

Hemsworth defeated Handsworth Parramore 2-1 with first half goals from Nash Connolly and Adam Knight proving decisive although Ellis Moore got a late consolation as the visitors threatened to take the quarter-final tie to extra time.

Liversedge's clash with Hallam did go the further half-hour after the home side were pegged back twice in normal time, Danny Farrar putting them ahead on both occasions only for Kieran Watson and then Tom Wilson to quickly equalise.

The Premier Division hosts prevailed, though, with a spot kick that was converted by Alfie Raw towards the end of the first period of extra time and Sedge progressed with a 3-2 win over their Division One opponents.

In the Premier Division, Thackley came from behind in dramatic fashion to take all three points in their local derby at home to Eccleshill United.

The Eagles had soared into a two-goal lead with strikes either side of the interval from Adam Shaw and Khurram Shazad and that is how it stayed until the last quarter-of-an-hour when the hosts rallied.

Jack Normanton's penalty and a goal from Luke Robinson brought their team level by the 82nd minute and they both then struck in stoppage time to claim a 4-2 win that moves Thackley up to thirteenth whilst Eccleshill stay in eleventh.

Grimsby Borough extended their lead at the top of Division One to three points as they came from behind to win 3-1 at Swallownest.

Nathan Morritt's opener for the home side was cancelled out by Marc Cooper before goals in the second half from Daniel Trott and Caine Winfarrah claimed the victory for the Wilderness boys.

Winterton Rangers won 4-1 at home to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, Noel Burdett, Luke Anderson, William Peers and Liam Nelthorpe with the goals that move Rangers up into third, four points behind Borough.

Meanwhile, Jordan Snodin's last-gasp winner snatched Selby Town a 3-2 victory over visitors AFC Emley who had seemed destined to take at least a point away from the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium.

Charlie Clamp had broken the deadlock on eight minutes for the Robins but the away side were 2-1 up by the hour mark through Jamie Hart and Daniel Naidole before Joshua Dacre made it 2-2 and the matter was then settled in injury time to move Selby up into the top six.

There was county cup disappointment for Staveley Miners Welfare as they bowed out of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup with a 2-0 loss in their semi-final tie at Evo-Stik Northern Premier League side Frickley Athletic.

And, two league games were postponed due to waterlogged pitches with Albion Sports' trip to Athersley Recreation in the Premier Division and Parkgate's home match with Ollerton Town called off on Wednesday afternoon.
