Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2018/19 #45

21st February, 2019

Worksop Town are up into second in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division, Goole AFC have climbed out of the relegation zone and the Quarter-Final line-up of this season's League Cup has been completed after matches in midweek.

Worksop are now just three points behind table-toppers Penistone Church, with a game in hand but an inferior goal difference, following their 3-1 home victory over Bottesford Town on Wednesday night.

Matthew Sykes set the Tigers on their way with an early penalty and Lee Hill doubled their advantage just before the interval.

Hill then grabbed his second and his side's third on the hour mark with Jack Bowskin claiming a 78th minute consolation for the Poachers who stay in tenth spot.

Goole, who had been in the bottom two since the start of October, moved above the dreaded dotted line thanks to a 1-0 win at Liversedge on Tuesday.

Carl Stewart grabbed the goal on 75 minutes in what could turn out to be a vital victory for the Vikings.

Staveley Miners Welfare and Selby Town booked their places in the last eight of the League Cup with wins on their travels.

Staveley went behind early at Garforth Town through a Mark Simpson strike but Joe Pugh's spot-kick restored parity and that is how it stayed all the way through normal time and then an extra half-hour.

A dramatic shoot-out then took place with Staveley going through 7-6 as keeper Myles Wright became the hero, saving the home side's eighth penalty before stepping up to strike the winner into the net.

Selby, meanwhile, caused an upset as the Division One visitors claimed a 3-1 win at Premier Division hosts Eccleshill United, Gary Collier's first half double giving them a 2-1 advantage by the interval with Khurram Shazad scoring in between.

Liam Flanagan made sure of the victory with the Robins' third at the start of the second period and Selby will now host fellow Division One side Swallownest in the Quarter-Finals whilst Staveley Miners Welfare will be at home to Worksop Town.
