NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #69
4th May, 2011
Farsley AFC clinched the double as they lifted the KoolSport NCEL League Cup on Monday whilst Barton Town Old Boys secured the second promotion spot in Division One.
Farsley beat Winterton Rangers 1-0 in what was, at times, a bad tempered affair at Staveley Miners Welfare's Inkersall Road ground.
The Throstle Nest side played all but three minutes of the game with ten men after their captain Dominic Krief was sent off for his reaction to a challenge.
Winterton's Liam Wilkin was then shown a second yellow card thirteen minutes from time which sparked a heated exchange between the two dugouts.
And, just as it looked as though the game was going to go into extra time, Ryan Watson struck to ensure that Farsley lifted the trophy.
Barton went into the final game of the Division One season knowing they had to avoid defeat at home to Louth Town to move up into the coveted runners-up spot.
And, it ended up being a comfortable afternoon for them as Richard Medcalf struck twice whilst Matthew Plant, Andy Jackson and Ashley Dexter all found the net in a 5-0 victory.
The Premier Division campaign was wrapped up with a 3-3 draw between Long Eaton United and Pickering Town, a point that saw Pickering finish seventh whilst Long Eaton ended their season in twelfth.
Parkgate were involved in Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup Final action on Tuesday night at Hillsborough but were beaten 3-0 by Stocksbridge Park Steels.
And, Hallam's 150th Anniversary Game with Sheffield, postponed on Boxing Day due to bad weather, finally took place on Monday.
Craig Getliff put Hallam ahead with fourteen minutes to go but their opponents struck twice to take home a 2-1 win.
There is only one match left in the KoolSport NCEL season as Hall Road Rangers take on North Ferriby United at Hull City's KC Stadium on Tuesday 10th May.
