NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #66
24th April, 2011
The KoolSport NCEL Premier Division champions celebrated their triumph by winning their final game of the season whilst relegation and promotion issues still remain uncertain going into the last nine days of the season.
Farsley AFC were handed the trophy after their 3-1 home victory over Lincoln Moorlands Railway, a win they secured after going behind on three minutes through a Nathan Adams strike.
Ben Jones pulled them level at the start of the second period before Roy Stamer and Gareth Grant made it a perfect afternoon for the Throstle Nest side.
Parkgate are now favourites to finish second after they beat third-placed visitors, Bridlington Town.
Twice they led through Janni Lipka and Nathan Swindells but Scott Phillips struck back on both occasions for the Seasiders.
And, when he got his second on 88 minutes, it looked as though they had secured a point but Lipka was on hand to put Parkgate back ahead for a 3-2 win.
The Steelmen are now four points ahead of Bridlington with two games to play.
Winterton Rangers and Tadcaster Albion will complete the top five after their places were secured with wins.
A Liam Wilkin brace made sure of a 2-1 victory for Winterton Town at home to bottom side Dinnington Town.
And, Tadcaster were 3-1 winners at Arnold Town, Stuart Rice, Carl Stewart and Graeme Whitehead with the goals for the Brewers whilst Joe Meakin netted a late consolation for the Eagles.
Arnold's defeat was part of a dramatic afternoon at the foot of the table.
Hallam secured a last minute 2-1 victory at Liversedge with Aaron Moxon scoring the winner.
That means Arnold and Hallam are now both on 27 points with Arnold just outside the bottom two on goal difference.
And, the two meet in a winners-takes-all match in their final game of the season at Eagle Valley on Tuesday evening.
Pickering Town were 5-0 winners at Selby Town with Nathan Cook and Billy Logan both claiming two goals each in the rout as the home side played most of the game with ten men after Paul Jones was sent off on 44 minutes for a second yellow card.
There were also away victories for Nostell Miners Welfare, Maltby Main and Armthorpe Welfare.
Nostell were 2-0 winners at Hall Road Rangers whilst Maltby Main beat hosts Scarborough Athletic, 2-1, and Armthorpe Welfare won by the same scoreline at Thackley.
Long Eaton United and Brighouse Town played out a goalless draw.
Yorkshire Amateur and Barton Town Old Boys both slipped up in the Division One promotion chase.
James Naylor's injury time winner for Askern Villa saw the Ammers beaten 1-0 at home whilst a Dean Wharam hat-trick condemned Barton to a 3-1 defeat to visitors AFC Emley.
Yorkshire Amateur have now completed their season and are in second spot so must wait to see what happens.
Barton are four points behind in third with two games to play whilst Handsworth, who were 3-1 winners at home to champions Staveley Miners Welfare, have an outside chance of finishing in the top two.
Lee Hill had put Staveley ahead on twelve minutes before Alex Torr, David Cockerill and Ryan Johnson struck in the second period for the hosts.
Craig Marsh was a hat-trick hero for Worsbrough Bridge Athletic as they won 4-0 at bottom side, Brodsworth Welfare.
There were away victories for Hemsworth Miners Welfare, Bottesford Town, Shirebrook Town and Eccleshill United.
Warren Redford struck twice for Pontefract Collieries in their 4-0 home win over Leeds Carnegie and Louth Town were 3-1 victors over visitors Appleby Frodingham.
