NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #64
17th April, 2011
Farsley AFC virtually sealed the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division title with their 4-3 victory at Tadcaster Albion on Saturday.
But, Bridlington Town's win means that it is still mathematically possible for them to be caught - just.
A hat-trick from Ben Jones helped Farsley to that dramatic success at the Brewers who are, themselves, playing for a top four finish in their first season in the top flight.
First half goals from Aaron Allanson, Craig Hogg and Gareth Owen secured Bridlington's victory at home to Dinnington Town.
It means the Seasiders can still catch up on Farsley as they are twelve points behind the leaders with four games to play.
But, they would have to overhaul a 21 goal difference and also hope that Farsley lose their remaining match at home to Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
Parkgate stay second after their 6-0 win at Nostell Miners Welfare but they can no longer catch the table-toppers as they are eleven points behind with three to play.
Nathan Swindells struck twice whilst there were goals as well for Daniel Cardwell, Ashley Worsfold, Danny Major and Chris Wood.
At the foot of the table, Dinnington were confirmed as the basement side with their defeat at Bridlington.
But, the battle to avoid finishing alongside them in the bottom two continues to hot up.
Hallam, who currently occupy nineteenth spot, picked up three vital points with a 2-1 victory at Lincoln Moorlands Railway, Delano Stewart-Jones scoring their winner in the 87th minute.
They now move to within three points of the side just above them, Arnold Town, who lost 2-1 at Winterton Rangers, courtesy of a James O'Neill strike deep in injury time.
Both sides have three games to play and, intriguingly, they meet each other at Eagle Valley in their final match of the season which could be the relegation decider.
Elsewhere, there were single goal away victories for Selby Town and Thackley.
Liam Davis netted on the hour mark for Selby at Armthorpe Welfare whilst Thackley's winner at Brighouse Town came from Stuart Waite after twelve minutes.
Long Eaton United were 2-0 victors at home to Liversedge, Scarborough Athletic drew 1-1 at Maltby Main and it was goalless between Pickering Town and Hall Road Rangers.
Yorkshire Amateur remain second in Division One after their 3-0 victory at Glasshoughton Welfare.
All the goals came in the second period from Chris Hitchins, Danny Forrest and Curtis Bernard.
They are four points ahead of Barton Town Old Boys in the race to finish in the top two alongside champions Staveley Miners Welfare.
Barton pummelled hosts Appleby Frodingham 9-0, with Richard Medcalf netting five of them to take his season's tally to 30.
And, with two games in hand on Yorkshire Amateur, they will fancy their chances of nabbing the promotion spot.
Fourth-placed Handsworth are mathematically still in with a chance - albeit a remote one - of finishing second after their 4-3 victory at Grimsby Borough.
Pontefract Collieries' promotion chase officially came to an end with their 2-1 defeat at Askern Villa whilst Eccleshill United were victorious by the same scoreline at home to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
A brace from Zeph Thomas helped Rossington Main to a 4-0 home victory over AFC Emley whilst Leeds Carnegie and Louth Town shared a 1-1 draw.
And, Teversal moved out of the bottom three with a 7-1 win at home to bottom side Brodsworth Welfare.
Oliver Trigg, Will Harcourt and Mitchell Slawson all struck twice for the hosts.
