NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #58
27th March, 2011
It was honours even in the big KoolSport NCEL Premier Division title clash on Saturday whilst Division One leaders Staveley Miners Welfare sealed a promotion spot with their win at Askern Villa.
Farsley AFC welcomed Bridlington Town to Throstle Nest for a first versus second clash in the top flight.
And, it will be the visitors who will have been the happiest with the result as Gareth Owen's 79th minute equaliser meant they went away with a point in a 1-1 draw after Dominic Krief had given Farsley an early lead.
It means Farsley remain six points clear of Bridlington but have played three games more.
Parkgate also kept themselves in the title hunt with a 3-1 home win over Brighouse Town.
Ashley Worsfold and Grant Allott had them two up in the opening quarter of the game before Matthew Sparkes pulled one back in first half injury time.
On 68 minutes, Luke Fletcher ensured the victory that moves Parkgate up into second, four points behind Farsley with one match in hand.
Tadcaster Albion remain in fourth spot after Carl Stewart and Graeme Whitehead helped them to a 2-1 victory at Liversedge.
Lincoln Moorlands Railway climbed into fifth with their 5-1 win at home to the side who were in that position at the start of the day, Winterton Rangers.
Nathan Adams struck twice for Moorlands with Danny Brooks, Dave Scott and Tom Garrick also getting on the scoresheet.
In the battle to avoid relegation, Hallam have moved off the bottom of the table with a 2-1 home victory against Maltby Main.
Aaron Moxon and Gavin Hunter struck for them in the first half and, even though Greg Mason's 78th minute penalty will have caused the nerves to fray, the Sandygate side held on for only their fourth league win of the season.
They go above Dinnington Town who were beaten 4-1 at home by Pickering Town and eighteenth-placed Arnold Town will be looking over their shoulders after a 2-1 defeat to visitors Nostell Miners Welfare means Hallam are six points behind them with three games in hand.
There were away victories for Armthorpe Welfare and Thackley as they won 1-0 at Scarborough Athletic and 3-1 at Selby Town, respectively.
Congratulations to Division One leaders Staveley Miners Welfare whose 3-0 victory at Askern Villa secured them a top two finish and they now need only one point to lift the title.
Jordan Eagers, Joe Macguire and Ryan Damms netted to claim the victory whilst their two closest rivals both slipped up.
A Steve Kenworthy brace for AFC Emley saw second-placed Yorkshire Amateur lose 2-0 at home, a defeat that means they cannot catch Staveley up.
In fact, the only team who can are third-placed Barton Town Old Boys but they could only draw 1-1 at Glasshoughton Welfare, Dean Taylor with their equaliser twenty minutes from time.
Appleby Frodingham won 1-0 at Brodsworth Welfare in the division's bottom two clash, Paul Reilly with the strike on fifty minutes to condemn the basement side to their thirtieth league defeat.
Eccleshill United were 3-0 winners at home to Teversal whilst Shirebrook won 2-0 at Hemsworth Miners Welfare, courtesy of goals from Joe Naylor and Peter Stubley.
Pontefract Collieries were 4-2 home victors over Rossington Main, Duncan Bray with a brace for them.
And, Bottesford Town played out a goalless draw at home to Leeds Carnegie.
