NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #57
25th March, 2011
Hall Road Rangers are through to the Final of the East Riding Senior Cup after their 2-1 home win over Bridlington Town on Tuesday.
It was, perhaps, a shock result with Rangers in the bottom four of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division whilst Bridlington are pushing for the title.
The night looked to be going to form, though, when the Seasiders took the lead after just four minutes through Scott Phillips.
But, Martin Thacker levelled for the hosts just before the interval and Tom Chippendale netted the winner midway through the second period.
Hall Road will now face North Ferriby United at Hull City's KC Stadium in May.
It proved to be a good midweek for them as, on Thursday, they won 2-1 again in the Premier Division to move them further away from the bottom four.
This time, they were the early starters at basement side Hallam with Daniel Clarke and Martin Thacker scoring both their goals in the opening ten minutes.
The hosts then grabbed a late consolation from Delano Stewart-Jones but they now find themselves nine points away from eighteenth spot after Arnold Town picked up three points in their two midweek matches.
The Eagles started on Tuesday with a 5-0 home hammering of Selby Town with all the goals coming after the interval from Connor Croft, Ritchie Holmes, Luke Smithson, Martin Carruthers and Carl Spencer.
But, Thursday night saw them beaten 3-1 at Thackley who move up into the seven with that victory.
Spencer netted again for Arnold whilst Mike Garrod's double and a strike from Matthew Mathers made sure it was the home side's evening.
Third-placed Parkgate picked up a point in one of their games in hand over leaders Farsley AFC, but they will have been disappointed to have drawn 4-4 at home to seventeenth-placed Liversedge.
It was a dramatic game that saw Parkgate two-up before their visitors rallied and led 3-2 by the break.
The hosts got themselves back in front but were denied all three points by an injury-time equaliser from Andrew Shuttleworth.
They are now six points behind Farsley, having played one match fewer.
Winterton Rangers are up to fourth after their 4-2 victory at Nostell Miners Welfare, Danny Barlow's double setting them on their way after Darren Rushton had given the home side a tenth minute lead.
Division One table-toppers Staveley Miners Welfare now only need five points from their remaining five games to secure the title after their 5-1 win at next-to-bottom Appleby Frodingham.
They were three-up by half-time through goals from Andrew Fox, Tom Jones and Ryan Damms before Fox grabbed his second and their fourth on 66 minutes.
Scott McKay gave App-Frod some respite late on but it was the visitors who had the last word with Joe Thornton netting their fifth.
Barton Town Old Boys are up into third and have an outside chance of claiming second at the end of the season after two goals in the last ten minutes from Lee Shilleto and Rob Northen saw them win 2-1 at home to Glasshoughton Welfare.
They're eleven points behind Yorkshire Amateur, who are currently second, but have four games in hand.
Handsworth have climbed into fifth after a second-half brace from David Cockerill helped them come from behind to beat visitors Eccleshill United, 2-1.
They go above Pontefract Collieries who drew 1-1 at Grimsby Borough whilst Hemsworth Miners Welfare and Rossington Main both posted good away victories.
Hemsworth won 4-0 at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic whilst Rossington Main defeated hosts Bottesford Town, 3-1.
And, Farsley are through to the Final of the President's Cup after winning 5-0 at home to Scarborough Athletic.
Ben Jones' penalty was their only goal in the first half but Gareth Grant and Simeon Bambrook had them in a three-goal lead by the hour mark.
Dominic Krief and Mark Bett then struck in the last ten minutes to book Farsley's place against Tadcaster Albion or Bridlington Town next month.
