NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #56
20th March, 2011
A 2-0 win at home to bottom side Hallam moved Bridlington Town to within six points of KoolSport NCEL Premier Division leaders Farsley AFC on Saturday.
Rob Eeles' opener and a Craig Hogg penalty towards the end of each half saw them close the gap on the table toppers who were without a game.
Parkgate saw their title challenge take a slight knock with a 2-1 defeat at Long Eaton United.
They were a goal ahead, thanks to Chris Wood's strike, going into the last twenty minutes.
But, Michael Martin levelled and Harry Lord netted the last gasp winner that saw Long Eaton climb into thirteenth.
Parkgate remain seven points behind Farsley but the title chase is wide open as they and Bridlington have games in hand on the Throstle Nest outfit.
At the other end of the table, Liversedge pulled themselves further away from the bottom three with a 2-0 victory at Selby Town, Andy Philp and Jack Garside with their goals.
And, eighteenth-placed Arnold could not take advantage of Hallam's loss and a free weekend for next-to-bottom Dinnington Town as they were beaten 4-2 at Pickering Town.
Connor Croft and Carl Spencer scored for the Eagles but a Josh Greening brace, a goal from Lyle Hillier and a Nathan Cook penalty ensured all three points went the home side's way.
Matthew Morgan's last minute penalty snatched a point for Thackley in a 2-2 draw with visitors Hall Road Rangers.
Maltby Main won by a single goal at home to Lincoln Moorlands Railway, Rob Branagan with the 63rd minute strike.
Scarborough Athletic won 2-1 at Brighouse Town whilst fourth-placed Tadcaster Albion drew 1-1 at Winterton Rangers.
Staveley Miners Welfare and Yorkshire Amateur continue to be the overwhelming favourites for promotion from Division One.
Both won on Saturday with Staveley staying in a very strong position to lift the title after their 2-1 home victory over Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
Ryan Damms put them ahead on three minutes before Andrew Hayward levelled on 18.
But, Andrew Fox struck early in the second period to keep them eight points clear with a game in hand.
Yorkshire Amateur were 2-0 winners at Appleby Frodingham with goals from Danny Forrest and Dempsey Smith in the second half.
Glasshoughton Welfare, who were third at the start of play, stumbled to a 4-1 home defeat by Askern Villa, allowing Louth Town and Barton Town Old Boys to move above them.
Louth are third after Jack Debnam's 88th-minute winner saw them beat hosts Rossington Main but they are thirteen points away from second spot.
Barton Town were 2-1 victors at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, a win that sees them climb into fourth and, with five games in hand on Yorkshire Amateur, they will still think they have an outside chance of making the top two.
Grimsby Borough enjoyed the biggest home victory of the day as a Lee Stephenson hat-trick helped them to a 5-1 scoreline over Eccleshill United.
A 44th minute goal from Steve Kenworthy meant that AFC Emley beat visitors Teversal 1-0 whilst Leeds Carnegie were 2-1 winners at home to bottom side Brodsworth Welfare.
And, two goals in the opening ten minutes from Joe Naylor saw Shirebrook Town win 2-1 against Bottesford Town at Langwith Road.
