NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #54
13th March, 2011
The KoolSport NCEL Premier Division title chase moved slightly in Farsley AFC's favour after their 2-1 home win over Pickering Town on Saturday kept them seven points clear at the top.
But, with the chasing pack having games in hand on the leaders, the race for the crown looks set to go right to the wire.
Ben Jones' 83rd minute penalty gave Farsley the victory after a Lee Connor opener for them had been cancelled out by Tom Adams on the hour mark.
Bridlington Town, who started the day in second spot, lost ground with a 1-1 draw at Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
But, the Seasiders were denied all three points by an injury time equaliser from Tom Garrick after Scott Phillips' strike had seemingly given them the victory.
Parkgate moved above Bridlington as Chris Wood's hat-trick helped them to a 4-2 home win over Thackley.
Ashley Worsfold also found the net for them whilst Nicky Matthews and Tom Higman scored for the visitors.
Tadcaster Albion are fourth after their 2-1 win at home to Maltby Main, even though the fourteen point gap with Farsley may now be too big for them to close.
Carl Stewart ensured them the victory with his winner four minutes from time.
Arnold Town gave themselves a massive boost in the fight for Premier Division survival with a 2-1 home win over Armthorpe Welfare.
Martin Carruthers struck his second and the winner as the game went into injury time in a match that had seen Armthorpe go ahead through Darren Mansaram in the opening minute.
It was Arnold's first league win since October and it moved them five points clear of the bottom two.
Basement side Hallam were beaten 4-1 at home by Nostell Miners Welfare whilst nineteenth-placed Dinnington Town were without a game.
Adam Crane struck twice in Hall Road Rangers' 3-0 home win over Selby Town whilst Liversedge and Winterton Rangers drew 2-2 and Long Eaton United were 1-0 winners at Scarborough Athletic.
Staveley Miners Welfare remain eight points clear in Division One after an 8-0 annihilation of hosts Bottesford Town.
Ryan Damms claimed four of the goals whilst Joe Macguire hit two and Aymen Tahar and Andrew Fox completed the scoring.
Second-placed Yorkshire Amateur were also winners as Leroy McIntosh and Mark Hill scored to give them a 2-0 victory over visitors Leeds Carnegie.
Glasshoughton Welfare's surge up the table continues after their 3-2 victory at Eccleshill United moved them up into third spot.
Liam Radford got what proved to be their winner in the 80th minute.
Danny Frost struck late on to earn Pontefract Collieries a 1-0 victory at Louth Town and they climb above their hosts into fourth.
Handsworth are up to sixth after Adam Fretwell and David Cockerill gave them a 2-0 win at Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
They go above Barton Town Old Boys who were beaten by a single goal at home to Rossington Main, Jake Vernon with the strike.
Bottom side Brodsworth Welfare are still waiting for their first league win of the season after they were beaten 2-1 by Shirebrook Town at home.
AFC Emley won 2-1 at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic with Dean Wharam and Mark Stuart netting for them in the opening 25 minutes.
And, Teversal were 3-0 winners at home to next-to-bottom Appleby Frodingham.
Matthew Robinson's first-half own goal set them on their way before Liam Wild and Mitchell Slawson added to the scoreline after the interval.
