NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #53
11th March, 2011
Bridlington Town moved up to second in the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division as they beat their local rivals Scarborough Athletic 5-0 in midweek.
The Seasiders are now seven points behind the leaders Farsley AFC with four games in hand as they look to successfully defend their title.
Amazingly, the game between the landlords and the tenants at the Neil Hudgell Law Stadium was goalless going into the interval.
But, Bridlington were two up within two minutes of the restart with goals from James Bennett and Craig Hogg.
Bennett made it three on the hour before two late strikes from Scott Phillips and Gareth Owen completed the scoring in front of a crowd of 537.
Tadcaster Albion's title challenge took a stumble as they were beaten 3-0 at Hall Road Rangers.
The fourth-placed Brewers were undone by two Martin Thacker penalties around the hour mark before Daniel Clarke added a third for Rangers in the 80th minute.
A brace each from Liam Wilkin and Jack Cross earned Winterton Rangers a 5-1 victory at Selby Town to cement their top six spot.
Just below them are Thackley who won 3-0 at Nostell Miners Welfare with Matthew Mathers' double and Mike Garrod's strike all coming in the first period.
The battle to stay in the top flight took another twist with the bottom four all facing fellow strugglers.
Basement side Hallam won at home to Arnold Town to move within three points of their opponents who are just outside the bottom two.
Simon Asquith struck the only goal of the game in the eighteenth minute.
And, Dinnington Town and Liversedge gained a point each in a 1-1 draw with the hosts levelling late on through Michael Trench after Adam Hill had opened the scoring for Sedge on 65 minutes.
Yorkshire Amateur moved to within eight points of Division One table-toppers Staveley Miners Welfare with a 3-2 victory at Handsworth.
They found themselves two goals down by the break, courtesy of a David Cockerill penalty and a second from Matthew Outram.
But, Chris Hitchins and Justin Bowler drew them level before Leroy McIntosh got the winner with fourteen minutes remaining.
A Luke Smith penalty ten minutes from time earned fifth-placed Pontefract Collieries a 2-1 win at Shirebrook Town to keep their promotion hopes alive.
Barton Town Old Boys have moved up to sixth after their 4-1 home victory over Eccleshill United.
They go above Leeds Carnegie who were beaten 1-0 by visitors Appleby Frodingham on Monday night, Steve McCarron with the goal on the hour.
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic also needed a late penalty, converted by Liam McFadyen, to earn a point in a 2-2 draw with Rossington Main.
And, Grimsby Borough played out a goalless draw in their mid-table clash with AFC Emley.
Meanwhile, Parkgate booked their spot in the Semi-Finals of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup with a 3-1 win over league rivals Staveley.
Chris Wood put them ahead after nine minutes before Aymen Tahar equalised early in the second period.
But, two quick goals from Nathan Swindells and Ashley Worsfold ensured that the Premier Division side progressed.
