NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #30
18th November, 2010
KoolSport NCEL Premier Division leaders Farsley AFC returned to form in devastating fashion and Scarborough Athletic booked their place in the Third Round of the FA Vase in another action-packed midweek.
Farsley, who had lost their previous two games, were clearly in the mood to reverse their fortunes as they beat hosts Brighouse Town 6-1 to move six points clear at the top of the table.
They were three up by the half-hour with Dominic Krief opening the scoring from the penalty spot and then Andy Cooper and Ben Jones putting them in the driving seat.
James Knowles made it four after the interval before Jones nabbed his second of the evening on 55 minutes.
Nicky Boshell claimed a consolation for the home side with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining but it was the visitors who had the final say with Patrik Bilek netting their sixth late on.
Two goals in the last three minutes from Tadcaster Albion saw them snatch a point in a 3-3 draw at Nostell Miners Welfare.
The hosts must have thought the victory was theirs when Neil Beardsmore, James Eyles and Marc Thompson gave them a three-goal cushion after 50 minutes.
But, Terry Taylor pulled one back before Graeme Whitehead added a second for the Brewers as the game went into injury time and then the scores were levelled in dramatic fashion through an own goal by Dave Watts.
In Division One, Leeds Carnegie played out a goalless draw at home to Yorkshire Amateur on Monday night whilst, on Wednesday, Rossington Main pulled themselves further away from the bottom two with a 2-1 win at Shirebrook Town.
Jason Stokes and Michael MacDonald got their goals, in between was a strike for the home side by Michael Lyall.
Scarborough became the fourth NCEL side to make it through to the next stage of the FA Vase as they won their replay, 3-2, at league rivals Armthorpe Welfare.
All the goals came in a stunning first 22 minutes with Craig Wilkinson and David Buck putting the home side ahead twice, only to be pegged back by Graham Botham and Bill Law.
Ryan Blott then put the Seadogs ahead for the first time in the tie and, amazingly, that is how it stayed as they booked a home clash with Spennymoor Town in the Third Round.
There was disappointment for Eccleshill United, however, as they were beaten 2-0 at home by Vodkat League side, Runcorn Town.
Appleby Frodingham became the first team through to the Third Round of the League Cup as Scott McKay and Thomas Finnigan helped them to a 2-1 win over visitors Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
And, in the First Round, two late goals by Aymen Tahar, one from the penalty spot, saw Staveley Miners Welfare progress at home to Pontefract Collieries.
Glasshoughton Welfare won 2-1 at Askern Villa to go through to the Quarter-Finals of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy, Jack Nodder and Dell Pollock with second half goals for them after Lee Pugh had given Villa a twelfth minute lead.
Bridlington Town beat Reckitts 3-1 in the East Riding Senior Cup, Wayne Wallace with two early goals before James McGarry made sure of victory at Queensgate in the last ten minutes.
Martin Carruthers and Chris Freestone found the net as Arnold Town progressed in the Notts Senior Cup, 2-0, at home to Newark Town.
Long Eaton United are also through in the Derbyshire Senior Cup with a 3-1 win at Heanor Town - Steve Chaplin, Nathan Parker and Adam Campbell with the goals.
And, Grimsby Borough produced a big upset as the Division One side went to Premier Division outfit Lincoln Moorlands Railway and won 5-0.
Richard Creer and Luke Mascall both struck twice in the opening half to put the game beyond doubt before the interval.
Nathan Emson then added a fifth on the hour.
