NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #22
21st October, 2010
Farsley AFC restored their seven point lead at the top of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division with a 5-1 victory at Pickering Town on Tuesday night.
But, the scoreline may suggest a more comfortable night than was actually the case as three of their goals came in the final five minutes.
Gareth Grant and Ben Jones had given Farsley a two-goal cushion before the interval but had to wait until the 85th minute to put the game beyond doubt with a Dave Stead brace and a Simeon Bambrook penalty.
Nathan Cook grabbed an injury-time consolation for the Pikes who are eighth in the table.
Parkgate's 2-1 win at Lincoln Moorlands Railway moved them up to third place on Wednesday night.
Ashley Worsfold opened the scoring for them on 53 minutes and Keir Hannity doubled their advantage soon after but Tom Garrick pulled one back to make it an interesting final quarter-of-an-hour.
Tadcaster Albion have climbed into the top six, with games in hand on all five sides above them, after their 4-2 win at home to fifth-placed Brighouse Town.
Nicky Boshell had put the away side ahead from the penalty spot just before the break but three goals in five minutes towards the start of the second half from Terry Taylor, Steven Jeff and Robert Pell put the Brewers in full control.
Matthew Howgate added a fourth before Brighouse's Damian Hopkins concluded the scoring with ten minutes to go.
Armthorpe Welfare drew 0-0 at home to Maltby Main.
Hemsworth Miners Welfare have moved out of the bottom five in Division One after their 5-0 victory at basement side, Brodsworth Welfare.
Craig Wilkinson struck twice whilst Jon Impey, Colin Williamson and Robbie Crapper heaped more misery on Broddy who have only picked up one point so far and conceded over fifty goals in their fourteen matches.
The League Cup got underway in midweek with four first round games.
Eccleshill United booked an away trip to Arnold Town with a 4-3 victory at Glasshoughton Welfare.
The night started comfortably for the Eagles as they cantered to a three-goal lead by the half-hour, Bradley Holland opening the scoring, Marcus Edwards netting a penalty and then Adam Bower hitting the third.
But, Glasshoughton showed resilience to pull it back to a one-goal deficit by the last fifteen minutes through goals from Darrell Young and Josh Corbett.
However, Edwards got his second and Eccleshill's fourth which proved to be vital as Young grabbed his second of the evening on 86 minutes.
Goals from Chris Thackray and Joe Rossiter saw Leeds Carnegie through 2-0 at Teversal and will now go to Winterton Rangers.
Yorkshire Amateur progress after their 2-1 home win over Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, thanks to Chris Hitchins' spot kick deep into injury time.
But, their joy was dampened in the incident that led to the penalty with midfielder John Douglas needing hospital treatment after a fall in the box led to a suspected very seriously broken arm.
A Kirk Shrimpton hat-trick helped Bottesford Town win 5-0 at home to Rossington Main and their reward is a match at Selby Town.
Shirebrook Town were 3-0 winners at Appleby Frodingham in the First Round of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy, Simon Welton's own goal started the scoring, quickly added to by Sean Dickinson and then Simon Johnson got the third midway through the second half.
And, there were two all-NCEL ties in the opening round of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy.
Ben Davison's 71st minute goal saw Louth Town through, 1-0 at home to Barton Town Old Boys, whilst Grimsby Borough won 4-2 on penalties at Winterton Rangers after the game had finished 1-1.
