NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #21

17th October, 2010

Bridlington Town took advantage of leaders Farsley AFC's day off to cut the gap at the top of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division to four points.

They won 3-2 at home to Lincoln Moorlands Railway but Tom Garrick's strike ten minutes from time made it a nervy end to the match at Queensgate.

Craig Palmer and James Bennett put the Seasiders two-up after just nineteen minutes before Luke Forbes quickly pulled one back for the visitors.

Craig Hogg restored the two goal advantage before the break and, despite the late scare, they notched up their sixth home league win out of six.

A Matthew Mathers hat-trick saw Thackley move up to third place with a 3-0 victory at home to the side who previously occupied that spot, Parkgate.

He struck first just before the half-time interval and then his two further goals in a minute midway through the second period made it an excellent afternoon for the hosts.

Brighouse Town's 4-3 win at home to Dinnington Town means they remain in fifth position.

But, going into the final ten minutes they were behind to their visitors who were desperate for a win to get out of the bottom three.

Ben Charlesworth and Nathan Cartman struck to turn the game completely on its head after Liam Cartledge had seemingly claimed the visitors' winner on 68 minutes.

Winterton Rangers climb up into sixth, over Pickering Town who did not play, with a 2-0 home win over basement side, Liversedge.

Danny Barlow opened the scoring on 49 minutes and James O'Neill doubled their lead with just over a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.

Long Eaton United came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Scarborough Athletic and move up into eighth place.

Tadcaster Albion were 4-1 winners at Maltby Main, Robert Pell getting two of the Brewers goals as they climb up into the top nine.

Ernest Boafo scored for Nostell Miners Welfare in their 1-0 home victory over Hallam whilst Hall Road Rangers won by the same scoreline at Selby Town, Jamie Barnwell with their goal just before the half-hour mark.

And, it was honours even in the highest scoring game of the afternoon as Armthorpe Welfare and Arnold Town played out a 4-4 draw.

The hosts needed a last-minute penalty to claim a point, Ben Muirhead striking home his second of the afternoon, and deny the Eagles who thought a Jervaise Christie hat-trick had helped them to victory.

Staveley Miners Welfare's lead at the top of Division One has been cut to one point as they were held to a 3-3 draw by fellow promotion chasers, Barton Town Old Boys.

The visitors were 3-0 up after 39 minutes thanks to a Gareth Barlow double surrounding Richard Medcalf's strike.

And, as the game went into its final quarter, it looked as if all was lost for the hosts but Ryan Damms started the comeback and then Joe Macguire netted twice in the last twelve minutes to cap a remarkable comeback.

Second-placed Pontefract Collieries were 2-1 victors at Rossington Main, but they also needed a bit of drama to claim that as Dean Twibey scored the winner in injury time.

Leeds Carnegie move up into third above Barton after their 3-1 win at home to Bottesford Town.

Jason Mycoe and Greig McGrory set them on their way before their visitors sparked into life with a Karl Slack reply on 33 minutes.

But, Matt Freeman made sure of the victory with six minutes remaining.

Fifth-placed Handsworth were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Louth Town who climb into sixth with their point.

Alex Torr made sure the honours were even, scoring for the hosts with eight minutes remaining.
