NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #18
7th October, 2010
Scarborough Athletic and Eccleshill United booked their places in the Second Round of the FA Vase with replay victories over KoolSport NCEL rivals in midweek.
The big game was at Queensgate where Scarborough faced their landlords Bridlington Town in front of a crowd of 729.
Steve Lyon put Bridlington ahead on 25 minutes but Ryan Blott had levelled by the break from the penalty spot.
The second-half belonged to the Seadogs as Blott scored again and, with five minutes remaining, Rob Northen secured the victory and a second round clash at home to Armthorpe Welfare.
Eccleshill also came from behind to progress against visitors Brighouse Town.
Darryl Leach scored for Brighouse early on but Lee Hill's penalty and a second from Matt Dempsey had the Eagles in front by the half-hour mark.
That is how it stayed and Eccleshill will now host Runcorn Town in the next round.
Arnold Town, however, bowed out of the competition as they were beaten 3-1 at home by Holbrook Sports whilst Barton Town Old Boys and Louth Town will meet again next midweek after a floodlight fire caused their replay to be abandoned at half-time.
The Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup First Round also took centre stage with twelve of our league sides in action.
There were two all-NCEL tussles with one going all the way to spot kicks.
Nostell Miners Welfare and Hallam found themselves 3-3 after 120 minutes and it was the Sheffield side that progressed 4-2 in the shoot-out.
And, Worsbrough Bridge Athletic went through in dramatic fashion at home to Handsworth, Lee Thompson getting his second of the evening in injury-time to snatch the hosts a 3-2 victory.
Staveley Miners Welfare and Maltby Main both enjoyed 8-1 victories, Ryan Damms netting four as Staveley dispatched Frecheville CA whilst Ryan Smyth claimed a hat-trick in Maltby's win over Frickley Colliery.
Parkgate were 6-1 winners at home to Phoenix whilst a Craig Rouse double secured hosts AFC Emley a 2-0 victory over Yorkshire Main and Dinnington Town progressed 2-1 at the expense of visitors AFC Sportsman Rovers.
Brodsworth Welfare kept it close for 50 minutes at home to Worksop Town but the Tigers' higher League status told as the game progressed as they went through, 7-0.
Hemsworth Miners Welfare and Rossington Main were knocked out by Kinsley Boys and Penistone Church, respectively.
There were three League matches with Thackley picking up a point at Tadcaster Albion in a 2-2 draw.
Tom Higman put them ahead on seventeen minutes before the home side scored twice in 60 seconds with goals from Graeme Whitehead and Nick Thompson.
But, the scores were level by the break, Matthew Matthers with the fourth and final goal of the evening.
Danny Barlow's 26th-minute strike was enough for Winterton Rangers as they won 1-0 at home to Long Eaton United.
And, in Division One, Mark Vickerage's brace ensured Askern Villa a point in a 2-2 draw against visitors Shirebrook Town after Sean Dickinson and Michael Lyall had twice put the Derbyshire side ahead.
