NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #15

27th September, 2010

Lincoln Moorlands Railway remain the only KoolSport NCEL team in the FA Cup as they progressed without kicking a ball in the competition at the weekend.

They were given a bye into the Third Round of Qualifying after their opponents Ilkeston Town's sad demise earlier this month.

Thackley missed out on a chance to join them at the next stage as they were beaten 1-0 at Ashington.

Railway, meanwhile, did play in the Premier Division but could not move out of the bottom two as they drew 1-1 at home to Armthorpe Welfare.

Henry Sibenge put the visitors ahead in the first half and it looked not to be the hosts' day when they were reduced to nine men.

Armthorpe also had a player sent off before Luke Forbes grabbed an equaliser for Railway with five minutes remaining.

At the other end of the table, it was a great day for the top two sides as they both posted convincing victories to pull away from the chasing pack.

Farsley AFC remain top after their 7-0 demolition of visitors Long Eaton United.

Steve Mallory, Roy Stamer and Ben Jones had them three-up after a quarter-of-an-hour, Jones netted the fourth after the break and James Knowles, Gareth Grant and Scott Driscoll concluded the scoring.

And, second placed Bridlington Town started even more quickly at Maltby Main, rushing into a four-goal advantage by the nineteenth minute with Alex Rhodes netting twice and Craig Hogg and James Bennett adding to the dream start.

Hogg made it 5-0 in first half injury time before David Gleeson added a consolation late in for Main.

Parkgate move up to third, six points behind Bridlington, after their 3-1 win at Liversedge with, like the two sides above them, all the damage done in the opening period.

Ashley Worsfold's opener was added to by Janni Lipka and William Senior converted a penalty before the interval whilst Dean Wharam scored bottom side Sedge's only goal of the game in the 62nd minute.

Brighouse Town drop to fourth as they were beaten 3-2 at Hallam, although they almost staged a comeback from 3-0 down.

Daniel Hull and Graham Marchant gave them some hope but Martin Brissett's 58th minute strike proved to be the winner for the hosts.

A Lyle Hillier equaliser ten minutes from time earned fifth-placed Pickering Town a point in a 2-2 draw at Tadcaster Albion whilst Selby Town climb to sixth after their 2-0 victory at Dinnington Town thanks to goals from Chaz Wrigley and Jamal Shain.

Rob Northen's brace helped Scarborough Athletic to a 4-1 win at home to Hall Road Rangers with the Seadogs quick climb up the table continuing as they move up into eighth position.

And, Lee Maturine's 79th minute goal saw Nostell Miners Welfare surge into the top half of the table after their win by a single goal at Winterton Rangers in the lunchtime game.

Staveley Miners Welfare are top of Division One after their 1-0 win at basement side Brodsworth Welfare, Andrew Fox with the vital goal on 29 minutes.

They are two points clear of Barton Town Old Boys who drew 0-0 at home to fourth-placed Pontefract Collieries.

Handsworth are third despite their 5-3 defeat at Bottesford Town, Karl Slack netting twice for the victorious home side in what was a thrilling game with six of the eight goals coming in the last twenty minutes.

Goals are something that AFC Emley desperately crave for as their 0-0 draw at fifth-placed Eccleshill United means they are still looking for their first goal of the league season after five matches and their last three games have ended scoreless.

Louth Town are sixth, four points behind the leaders, after their 1-1 draw at home to Askern Villa and they needed an 89th minute penalty from Danny Warvill to tie the game after Tom McLaughlin had given the visitors a first-half lead.

Leeds Carnegie drew 0-0 at Teversal to be seventh in the table whilst a Nathan Emson hat-trick helped Grimsby Borough secure a 4-3 win at Glasshoughton Welfare to climb to ninth.

A double each from Liam Charlton and Lee Holmes gave Rossington Main victory by the same scoreline at Hemsworth Miners Welfare whilst Worsbrough Bridge Athletic won 2-1 at home to Appleby Frodingham and Yorkshire Amateur were comfortable victors, 4-1 over visitors Shirebrook Town.
