NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #6
26th August, 2010
The focus in midweek was fully on KoolSport NCEL Division One with nine matches taking place.
And, once again, there was no shortage of goals in what promises to be a fascinating race for the title.
Four clubs sit on top with nine points but leading the pack are Barton Town Old Boys who have won all three of their games so far, scoring fifteen goals in the process.
They replaced their latest victims, a previously unbeaten Askern Villa, at the summit with a 4-1 victory at the Euronics Ground.
Goals from Dave Gordon, Gareth Barlow and James Atkinson ended the game as a contest after 32 minutes.
Mark Vickerage pulled one back for Villa but Ryan Morton added a fourth for Barton with five minutes remaining.
Louth Town also have a 100% record and are second after their 4-2 win at home to Glasshoughton Welfare.
A single-goal lead by the break through Louth's Danny Kilmore was cancelled out by Darren Young before Richard Booth put Welfare ahead just after the hour mark.
But, the hosts rallied with Mark Fairburn levelling, Kilmore getting his second and then, almost immediately, a Paul Watts spot kick ensuring victory.
Staveley Miners Welfare moved up to third with a 5-1 home triumph over Appleby Frodingham, Joel Birks with a brace added to by Lee Holmes, Lee Askham and Jamie Smith whilst Paul Reilly struck late on for the visitors.
A much improved Eccleshill United complete the leading quartet after a 3-1 win at Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
Marcus Edwards struck twice in two minutes midway through the opening period to give them a great start but their lead was halved by a Wayne Harratt penalty just before half-time.
Matt Dempsey, though, made certain of the win with Eccleshill's third on 61 minutes.
Handsworth are two points behind in fifth place after a handsome 4-0 victory at home to AFC Emley, Andrew Battersby, Tyrone Crapper and Ryan Johnson with the goals before the break whilst Tom Roebuck compounded the visitors' misery in the second half.
There was a goalless draw between Bottesford Town and Worsbrough Bridge Athletic whilst the remaining three matches all ended with wins for the visiting team.
Teversal won a thrilling contest at Brodsworth Welfare by the odd goal in seven.
They were two-up by the quarter-hour mark with Joel Smith opening the scoring and Colin Cockerill then doubling their advantage from the penalty spot.
Ryan Sharp pulled one back for Brodsworth but Tevie's two-goal cushion was restored in first-half injury time by Greg Tobin.
Jamie Cooke reduced the deficit once more and then Lee Parker made the scores level going into the final quarter of the game.
But, Ross Henshaw nabbed victory for the visitors with just two minutes remaining to put Teversal in twelfth place.
Grimsby Borough and Leeds Carnegie were 3-1 winners on their travels.
Goals from Matthew Oswin, Nathan Emson and Richard Creer saw Boro triumph at Pontefract Collieries.
And Leeds defeated hosts Shirebrook Town with Greg McGrory, Marco Marchetta and Scott McGrory all getting on the scoresheet.
