NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #5
22nd August, 2010
Parkgate remain at the summit of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division after a comfortable 4-1 victory at home to South Yorkshire rivals Hallam on Saturday.
Ashley Worsfold continued his productive start to the campaign with two of the goals whilst Matthew Griffin and Jamie Ghaichem added to the home side's glee.
Joe Boggild grabbed a first half consolation for Hallam who have failed to pick up a point in their two away games so far.
Joining Parkgate on seven points are Bridlington Town as Craig Hogg's 48th minute winner secured the defending champions a 2-1 victory at Brighouse Town.
The hosts, who had a nightmare week off-the-field with a major fire at the Dual Seal Stadium, got off to a fine start with Nathan Cartman opening the scoring just before the hour mark.
But, Steve Lyon levelled just before the interval and Hogg struck just after it to give the travelling support much to cheer.
Farsley AFC and Selby Town complete the top four with both winning their two matches so far.
Farsley were 2-1 victors at Scarborough Athletic with Dominic Krief and Ben Jones having them in an unassailable position by the hour.
Bill Law brought one goal back late on for the Seadogs who have picked up one point from their first two games.
Selby Town left it late in their local derby at home to Tadcaster Albion.
The game was seemingly petering out to a 0-0 draw but Ricky Belding broke the deadlock on 87 minutes and Brenton Leister struck a penalty soon after to give the Robins a 2-0 victory.
Liversedge are bottom of the table after their 3-2 defeat at home to Pickering Town.
They had led twice through Jermaine Moyce but Darren Clough and then Wayne Aziz equalised for the visitors before Josh Greening grabbed the victory with fourteen minutes remaining.
Arnold Town got their season up-and-running with a 1-0 victory at Dinnington Town, James Artis with the goal on 44 minutes.
The other four Premier Division matches ended in draws.
Ben Muirhead's 64th minute penalty ensured Armthorpe Welfare a point in their 1-1 home draw with Nostell Miners Welfare.
That was after Matthew Jackson had given the visitors an early lead.
Two first-half Tom Garrick penalties were not enough for Lincoln Moorlands Railway as they drew 2-2 at Hall Road Rangers.
Paul Wilson and Keith Walsh got the hosts' goals in the second period.
Chris Dickman converted a very late penalty to grab a point for Maltby Main in a 1-1 draw at Long Eaton United, cancelling out Aiden Brady's 73rd minute opener.
And, Thackley came from two-down to finish 2-2 at home to Winterton Rangers.
But, the game ended on a sad note as Winterton's Liam Slack had to be taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg - the NCEL sends its best wishes to him.
Askern Villa are top of Division One after a fine 3-0 victory at Staveley Miners Welfare.
Tom McLaughlin and Michael Evans gave them a two-goal advantage by the interval before Mark Vickerage ensured victory in second-half injury time.
They go above Pontefract Collieries who were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Teversal.
The visitors took the lead after just two minutes but Luke Forgione made sure the shares were spoiled almost midway through the second period.
A hat-trick each for Gareth Barlow and Richard Medcalf moved Barton Town Old Boys up into third with a 7-0 home victory over Brodsworth Welfare.
Lee Shilleto also netted for the hosts as the visitors conceded seven for the second time in three matches so far this season.
A Danny Kilmore strike on 62 minutes made it two wins out of two for NCEL newcomers Louth Town at home to Yorkshire Amateur.
But, fellow new side Handsworth went down to a 2-0 defeat at Eccleshill United, Andy Howland with both the Eagles' goals, one in each half.
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic had a very comfortable away day as they won 3-0 at Rossington Main.
Matty Roberts opened the scoring on three minutes before Adam Podmore doubled Worsbrough's advantage as the game went towards first-half stoppage time.
Roberts grabbed his second and the away side's third on 49 to pick up their first points of the season.
Glasshoughton Welfare were 3-1 winners at Shirebrook Town with Mark Newton having them ahead by the break.
Dell Pollock added their second in the opening minute after the interval.
Peter Stubley pulled one back for the Derbyshire side but Tim Edney made certain of the victory with a third for Welfare on 79 minutes.
Grimsby Borough were 1-0 winners at Leeds Carnegie with Nathan Emson striking the vital goal on 82 minutes.
And, it was 1-1 at the Fitzwilliam Stadium between Hemsworth Miners Welfare and Bottesford Town.
Jake Cawsey put the visitors in the lead after a quarter-of-an-hour but Ross Haywood levelled on 37 minutes.
