NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #4
19th August, 2010
Five more KoolSport NCEL sides booked their place in the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup with wins in midweek ? taking the League?s tally of clubs still in the competition to sixteen.
AFC Emley finally got their match at Morpeth Town played after it was called off on Saturday due to a waterlogged pitch.
And, they secured a hard-earned 2-1 victory that was made even more of an achievement after their pre-match preparations were sent into disarray when the players' coach broke down halfway through the two-and-a-half hour journey.
Thankfully, boss Darren Bland and committee member Alan Hird were using their own transport which meant that the team could get a starting eleven to the ground by kick-off with the substitutes arriving later on a replacement coach.
Morpeth took the lead early in the second period but Emley showed great fighting spirit to win the game, courtesy of goals from Andrew Brownrigg and Mark Stuart.
The rest of the matches were replays with Barton Town Old Boys and Bottesford Town progressing at the expense of fellow NCEL clubs.
Matty Fyvie struck on 55 minutes to send Barton Town through at home to Long Eaton United whilst Bottesford dispatched Teversal, 3-1.
Vas Nikolaidis opened the scoring for the home side in the opening four minutes but had to wait until the final quarter of the game to double their advantage through Carl La Rocca.
Teversal pulled one back through Joel Smith but Bottesford's nerves were eased with a third from Mark Anderson as the game entered injury time.
Thackley were 2-1 winners over visitors Stokesley, Joel Ettiene and Matthew Hall with their goals before a late consolation from Andrew Jennings for the Northern League side.
Maltby Main progressed on penalty kicks after a goalless 120 minutes at home to Blackstones, the Muglet Lane side winning 4-3 in the shoot-out.
An 88th minute equaliser from Liam Coughlan saw Nostell Miners Welfare also face spot kicks after a 2-2 draw at St Helens Town but their hosts progressed, winning 5-4 on penalties.
Leeds Carnegie were beaten 3-1 at Billingham Synthonia despite the home side being down to ten men for fifty minutes and Hall Road Rangers bowed out by the same scoreline at Newcastle Benfield.
Parkgate top the Premier Division after their 2-0 win at home to Pickering Town, William Senior and Janni Lipka with the goals either side of half-time.
They lead Bridlington Town, who won 2-1 against visitors Winterton Rangers, on goal difference.
Bridlington had gone behind from a Liam Wilkin penalty on 37 minutes but Steve Lyon and Jase Moody found the net in the second period to take the points.
Pontefract Collieries moved to the summit of Division One after a pulsating 4-3 victory at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
Jason Bentley broke the deadlock for them on twenty minutes but this was quickly cancelled out through an Andrew Hayward equaliser.
Paul Staniforth's penalty put Ponte back in front before the half-hour mark but, again, they were instantly pegged back, this time by Lee Swift.
And, it was Hemsworth who went in ahead at half-time thanks to Colin Williamson's goal on 37 minutes.
But, two goals in quick succession at the beginning of the second period ultimately gave the Colls the points.
Firstly, Wayne Harratt put through his own net and then the hosts' winner was scored by Carl Fothergill.
Staveley Miners Welfare also joined Ponte at the top with six points from two games but they had to wait until the final eighteen minutes before they found the net at home to Yorkshire Amateur.
They were trailing through a 36th minute goal from Tom Marsden but Chris Coy levelled and Jamie Smith struck twice in the last seven minutes to claim a 3-1 victory.
