NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #56
15th March, 2010
Bridlington Town extended their lead at the top of the KoolSport Northern Counties East League after they were the only side in the top four to win at the weekend.
Their 4-1 victory at Lincoln Moorlands Railway means they are now nine points clear of Armthorpe Welfare who drew 3-3 at Hall Road Rangers and fourteen ahead of Rainworth Miners Welfare who were 1-1 at home by Arnold Town.
The Seasiders took the lead on ten minutes through Alex Rhodes before their next-to-bottom hosts Tom Garrick levelled to keep things equal by the interval.
But, the second half was Bridlington's as a Wayne Wallace goal and Ashley Allanson penalty had them two-up by the hour mark and Craig Burdick made certain of the points with six minutes remaining.
Armthorpe were 3-1 up in their match at Hall Road as the game went into the last eleven minutes.
But, in a game where they finished with eight men, they succumbed to two James McGarry goals, one a penalty, to pick up just a point.
Earlier, Liam Hardy and James Walker had given them a two goal cushion before Steve Graham opened the scoring for the hosts on 63 minutes.
An Andrew Taylor penalty put Welfare seemingly on the brink of victory before the dramatic comeback by Hall Road who also had a player sent off.
Rainworth ended a four match losing streak with their draw with Arnold, but they were denied a win by a Rob Gill strike six minutes from time that cancelled out Ant Lynam's first half penalty.
Fourth placed Thackley went ahead at Winterton Rangers through Rob Morgan's 42nd minute opener but ultimately fell to a 2-1 defeat with Gavin Cooper and Liam Slack scoring in the second period, the winner coming on the brink of injury time.
Scarborough Athletic moved to within four points of Thackley with a 6-1 home demolition of Nostell Miners Welfare.
Ryan Blott's opener and a Scott Phillips penalty for the hosts sandwiched a 31st minute goal from Darren Rushton to give Scarborough a slender half-time advantage.
And, Blott and Phillips both struck again whilst Joel Hartley and Michael Price also found the net - all four goals coming in a ten minute spell in the last quarter-of-an-hour - to get them back to winning ways.
Ian Beckram and Duncan Bray ensured a 2-1 victory for sixth-placed Selby Town at Shirebrook Town, Andy Crossland with a late consolation for the hosts who remain in the bottom four.
Basement side Brodsworth Welfare are almost mathematically certain of a bottom two spot after their 2-1 defeat at home to Dinnington Town - they are 21 points away from eighteenth-placed Nostell with eight to play.
Liam Salt struck twice as Pickering Town won 4-1 at Long Eaton United whilst Parkgate were also victors on their travels, 2-1 at Hallam.
And, Maltby Main won 3-1 at home to Liversedge to move five points away from the bottom four.
Brighouse Town remain in pole position in the Division One title race after their 3-1 win at home to fellow promotion rivals, Staveley Miners Welfare.
Wayne Crossley's penalty and goals from Lee Burgess and Daniel Davidson made sure of the victory before Robert Ward pulled one back for the visitors in injury time.
Second placed Leeds Carnegie won by the same scoreline at Bottesford Town thanks to a Tim Lowe own goal and a Chibuzor Chilaka strike in the first half and Andy Cooper's goal on 52 minutes.
Carnegie remain five points behind Brighouse but have four games in hand.
Tadcaster Albion stay third but have lost ground after they were beaten 3-1 at Pontefract Collieries, Kevin Smith netting for them on 63 minutes but only after Will Ryder had opened the scoring and Craig Stephens had then pounced twice further for the hosts.
Scoreline of the day came at the Fitzwilliam Stadium where an Andy Haywood hat-trick helped Hemsworth Miners Welfare to a storming win over visitors Eccleshill United.
Damion Liddle, Lee Dawson, Lee Swift and Tom Grindel also scored to notch up their second 7-0 victory in three matches.
Eccleshill stay next-to-bottom, two points ahead of Worsbrough Bridge Athletic who, thanks to a Gareth Barlow double and a late goal from Lee Shilleto, lost 3-0 at Barton Town Old Boys.
AFC Emley were 4-3 winners at Teversal in what was a dramatic game at Carnarvon Street, Craig March striking twice for the visitors to help get three valuable points to keep them in the top five.
Glasshoughton Welfare won 3-0 at home to Grimsby Borough whilst Askern Villa were 2-1 victors at Yorkshire Amateur and Rossington Main needed an 87th minute winner from Jake Vernon to beat visitors Appleby Frodingham, 3-2.
