NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #39
27th December, 2009
The KoolSport NCEL saw its first action in a week-and-a-half as one Premier Division match beat the cold snap to go ahead on Boxing Day.
Shirebrook Town worked wonders to get their clash with local rivals, Rainworth Miners Welfare, on at Langwith Road.
And, they were rewarded financially with 265 people coming through the gate to watch the only match in the area.
But, they were not rewarded on the pitch as they lost 4-0, a result that puts their opponents top of the table going into 2010.
Brendan Sweeney and Massiah McDonald had the Wrens two up by the interval.
Matthew Baxter got the vital third just after the break before McDonald got his second and completed the scoring on the hour mark.
Going into the New Year, the chase for the Premier Division title is set to be one of the closest in recent years.
Any of the top four, Rainworth, Bridlington Town, Armthorpe Welfare and Scarborough Athletic must be considered favourites to take the trophy.
But, Thackley and Selby Town are amongst a chasing group who will be looking to play catch up in the second half of the season.
Staveley Miners Welfare go into the New Year top of Division One, albeit just a point over Leeds Carnegie and three over third placed AFC Emley.
Like the Premier Division, the race for the Division One trophy looks a tight one.
And 2010 promises to be a dramatic year in both divisions in the KoolSport NCEL.
